      Same problem every time

I've attempted WILDs and FILDs lately. Through doing meditation for years (and experiencing some FA and SP) I recognise some of the unusual occurences - feeling yourself move about in bed, loud bangs, feeling your body kind of float apart etc.

The problem I'm having now, is that every time I reach one of these key stages, I am immediately thinking, "Hey! This is one of the signs! I'm about to LD!" and it stops. It's like I'm inhibiting myself with anticipation, I think.

Is there any way to tackle this? Does it get better over time?

I'm also finding it difficult to drop off again when I'm using WBTB with MILD.

As you gain more experience, learn to control your excitement. Thus said, the more experience, the more familiar it will be and the more control you will have.

      Good luck!

I know one of the best drummers in Hawaii. He told me he asked the best drummer, "How'd you get so good?" The best drummer said, "practice."

Thank you for your input. I think I am getting past this stage now. I kinda realised that I was focusing too much on the end product. Now I've switched towards enjoying the nice and interesting sensations I experience on the whole journey; if I don't get to a dream I still can appreciate - and benefit from - the blissful relaxation.

      Hi, Weirdness,

      Congratulations on your first MILD!!!

You ask alot of the questions I ask.
What is the correct ratio of effort vs. non-effort? It seems to be such a delicate balance.

I have tried too hard (grrrr), gotten over-excited (oh, yes!) and knocked myself out of many of my potential thrilling travels. (Guess I won't be flying *there* tonight....)

Then I have become (deliberately) nonchalant. This works occasionally.
I've even given up. (sigh...) Which also works occasionally.

And then I go back to practicing.
      That works occasionally, too.

      Thanks for all your questions.

      Hold still & try again

...hypnotic fractionation. What this means is quite simply when you are impeded relax, don't move, & try again. So, when you get excited & come to then start over. The best time to relax/fall asleep again is right after you have. Every time you come out then go back and do it again. This amplifies new neural pathway & makes it easier to access every proceeding occurrence. The real trick to this is to minimize the movement. i.e. eye movement, limb etc. Its like learning to ride a bike. When you fall over you learn to pick yourself back up & ride again. the key part here is get back on the bike. Keep it up

Thank you, beachgirl. I enjoyed my first MILD and I'm hungry for more.

I think you raise an important point about being deliberately nonchalant. I haven't succeeded yet, but I think I've just become aware of something simple that was impeding me - the fear of falling asleep and losing a WILD opportunity. Now I "let myself go" more. I usually don't fall asleep anyway.

I seem to be progressing through the SP step by step. I think I got further today than ever before, but it seems that every time I pay any attention to it at all, it dies.

Great advice, Hijo DLL. I have found this advice at exactly the right time.

I will never stop getting back on the bike

I think I just got a step further. I seem to be progressing every day now. That was amazing, to be frank. I think I got a little further down, the "tunnel of fear".

The bed was warping up, I was warping up like something was pushing my back. It was pulsing, like a "vwoom, vwoom, vwoom" and I felt like I was inflating. And somehow out of nowhere my mantra totally changed and I saw a 'visual mantra'.

      My eyes went crazy too.
