      Chakra meditation questions

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, I wasn't sure.

I don't believe in chakras, spiritualy or energy or anything, but I think they look like a good way to meditate because they use visualization, breathing, expectation, and focus on a single thing.

Does anyone have tips on chakra meditation or a good tutorial?

And when I visualize the second chakra should I keep visualizing the first at the same time and so on with the rest?

How long should I spend on each chakra?

And what do I do when I've gone through all the chakras? Start over again?

well it doesn't help that you have no faith that energy is real.

Visualize each chakra expanding then stabilizing into a ball in the area its in, as the color it is.

1- is right underneath you're fun parts and is red
2- just below you belly button and is orange
3- is in your solar plexus and is yellow
4- your heart (center of chest) and is green
5- in your neck and is blue
6- in the center of your brain and is purple
7- The top of your head, imagine white light pouring in your whole body.

don't do it over and over just stay there

Thanx, but do you keep visualizing all the chakras your up to?
So like when your doing 3 you will be visualizing all 3 or just the third?
And when you get to the end do you just chill there visualizing them all?

You can either focus on one, or all. For me, focusing on just one at a time gives me a much stronger reaction from the chakras individually, but when focussing on them all it gives a really interesting feeling, a combined awareness of your entire body, and all of your energy. Try swapping between both, see which you prefer. I also recommend actually learning to use some energy stimulation exercises, to see the effect yourself

I would focus on bringing awareness into these bodily areas while remaining perceptive for any sensations which arise. Unless visualization comes very natural to you, the focus of your mind onto a certain region of the body is more important than trying to create a visual image. For instance, bring your awareness into your chest. Just localize that area with your mind. Note any sensations. Simply focusing on it will activate it to some extent, and if you wish you can imagine it turning or opening - whatever feels spontaneous and natural. Awareness of that region will help activate it, the visual images are just a method of focusing on that center.

At first I would simply run through all the centers in sequence from bottom to top, noting how each one feels as you go. Do this as many times as you like, spending 5 minutes or so on each. Once you get used to how they feel, you can spend more time, even whole mediations, working on specific areas.

Also notice how your own different moods, thoughts and actions create feelings in these centers. Your consciousness goes throughout your whole body, and you can begin to map out various levels of yourself with regard to how your body feels in different situations and psychological states.

Belief is not necessary to do this work, although a strong enough disbelief may prevent you from noticing any sensations. When opening up to another person makes your chest buzz with energy, and becoming nervous and withdrawn causes your solarplexus to constrict, the feelings are simply there regardless of belief. You don't even have to call them chakras. Just be aware that your consciousness is as much in your body as in your mind.

In the long term make sure you work on each one, but you can just skip to the 4th or whichever in any given session if that feels right for you.

My only advice is that you should avoid spending much time on the root chakra, because it can activate kundalini. You may not believe in chakras or whatever, but that won't stop you from having horrible pain that no doctor can ever help you with once you have kundalini energy activated. Trust me, speaking from experience here.

As to whether you visualize the one you're working on along with the rest--that depends on what you want to do. In chi gong, we do the microcosmic orbit, where we have energy flow through all the chakras at once. But if you're wanting to focus on one chakra at a time, then you don't need to be aware of the others. I think it's easier that way.

      What is kundalini?
And what are chakras anyway, are they some spiritual thing or is there actualy some physical or scientific thing for them?
      Thanx

Chakras, in my experience, aren't just silly colored circles that relate to certain parts of your life. They're like vortexes of energy inside your body. They're generally considered metaphysical, but there are a few genuine researchers out there who are trying to study them.

Kundalini is basically an intense energy traveling up your spine. But it really depends on who you ask. It is not scientific--it's more metaphysical. However, some scientists and psychologists do recognize it as "chi gong induced psychosis" or other fun names, depending on how intense it is and how the energy moves within you. In other words, as far as science is concerned, it's either a rare neurological disorder, or a kind of psychosis. So yeah.

Edit: Gah, typing all that is making my head tingly again. *rubs head* >_>

I didn't realise you went through Kundalini, Naiya. I've only read about how horribly painful it is, as though a snake is forcing it's way through your spine and up through your body. I think I'll be a lot more cautious with my root chakra from now on... O___O

Less like a snake, more like a volcanic eruption with a side of lightning. The episodes themselves are usually short (minutes), the after-effects are mostly aching or burning sensations that can last up to several days. Still, every couple of weeks for months or years on end is not something you want to get yourself into.

Actually, every chakra has an endocrine gland that it is connected to in some way. Some describe chakras as metaphysical counterparts of the glands. It makes it, at least for me, quite a bit more interesting knowing there is some actual physical correlation.
