Their rankings were combined to create a single consensus vote on the most agreed-upon match. This new arrangement allowed the dreamers to pick up on the target stimulus,

but

did so in a way that didn't require:

a special laboratory,
all night technitians,

or even

separate senders
or
judges.

In 2003, Sherwood and Roe reviewed all of the dream studies from the original Maimonides series and these latest 'at home' dream experiments.

They (Sherwood and Roe) evaluated fourty-seven experiments involving a total of 1,270 trials and concluded:

that the successful 'hit rate' was so much greater than what would be if only a random event were involved,

that the odds against chance were 22,000.000,000 to 1 (Radin, 2006, p, 109).

Dr. Allan Rechtschaffen, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Chicago, is a noted pioneer in the field of sleep research.

He was invited to present an experimental design for a 1968 conference in France sponsored by the Parapsychology Foundation on Methodology in Psi Research.

In his opening remarks, (Rechtschaffen, 1970) stated:

"I was assigned the job of presenting a design of an experiment in ESP, based on current sleep and dream research...I thought I ought to do an ESP experiment before I presented a design.

So

during the the past month I ran a little pilot study together with a student of mine, Mr James Kahn...

The basic idea of the experiment was that if a psi signal is best recieved during an altered state of consciousness, perhaps it is also best generated during the same or similar state.

Therefore,

we wanted both the signal and reception to occure in an altered state of consciousness, namely a dream. ...

We noted a good deal of correspondence, quite anecdotally, between dreams occurring about the same time in the night by two sleepers (p. 87-88)."

The best example of this was the following, recorded with two subjects who knew each other quite well:

"In the first dream,

one subject dreamt about students singing in Russsian and the other subject dreamt about students doing some kind of interpretive singing.

In the second dream,

the first subject was taking a violin lesson and the other subject was learning a guitar melody.

In the third dream,

the first subject was watching a James Cagney gangster movie, and the other subject reported a dream about a recent gangster movie, Bonnie and Clyde (p. 89). ..."

As the subjects knew each other, the possibility of collusion, which we really doubt, could not be rulee out.

So

So ...

We had to go on and introduce experimentally an external stimulus into the dream.

We did this by post hypnotic suggestion.

Before the subject went to sleep for the night, he was hypnotized,

and

while he was in trance we told him that during the night, he would have a certain dream.

"The very first night that we tried it, we told the subject that he would dream the death of Martin Luther King and of a fear of riots,

and

He dreamt that Martin Luther King had been shot and that somebody threw a rock and they were afraid a riot would would start.

The other subject, who had not recieved any suggestion, dreamt of a Negro policeman who was beating another man and he was afraid that sombody would throw a brick and start a riot."

"On the other night we told this subject to dream he was in an amusement park, having a very good time. He dreamt that and specifically he dreamt about riding on a merry-go-round.

The other subject had a dream of people laughing and running in circles and there were 'grining funny looking horses' in his dream."

Rechtschaffen then decided to use hypnosis to investigate the possibility of inducing SIMULTANEOUS dreams.

He reported some very striking correspondences between these hypnotically induced dreams.

In his discussion of his overall results at this conference and in responding to the many questions posed to him, Rechtscaffen made several comments about features he would consider in any future research that I would like to emphasize.

On page 94, he stated:

"We would allow at least a week between sessions".

I focus on that comment because of my earlier criticism of Foulkes when I had to cram my entire testing protocol into a 2 week period

rather than the 44 week protocol that I was allowed at Maimonides.

He also observed that

"when you simply have judges match a dream against a suggested topic, a hit does not reveal the degree of the hit.

A simple matching procedure does not take into account the very unlikely probability of such a specific occurence". (p. 92)

And

Finally I found myself intrigued with his questioning comment

"We thought that maybe the question is not so much

what do dreams mean.

But

whose dream are you having?"

(p. 89)

My first impressive personal introduction to the realm of

"entangled dreams"

and the question of

whose dream are you having

occurred when I conducted an informal experiment on November 17, 1985.

The setting was my home in Charlottesville, Virginia.

I had previously announced to readers of the

Dream Network Bulletin

that I would concentrate on a target picture that night

and

I invited them to send me accounts of the dreams they experienced that night.

A total of twenty percipients responded to my request.

2011 Psi Dream Contest Results

Each year, since 1985, at the Annual IASD Conference, a Psi Dream*Contest (formerly known as a Dream Telepathy Contest) is held. *

Consistent results are obtained, year after year. *Results from the 2011 conference held in Kerkrade, The Netherlands, proved to be the same.

In brief, this is how the contest works. *

A "sender" is chosen from*
among the attendees, in this case it was a Dutch dreamer, Suzanne*Wiltink, who has shown some success with dream telepathy in the past.

Prior to the contest, four opaque manila envelopes were prepared.

Each*

contained an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper with a full color image on it.

The*images were intentionally chosen so they would be as different from*each other as possible in theme, color, setting, objects, shapes, etc.

To begin the contest on Saturday night, the attendees gathered and*Suzanne was asked to choose one envelope from the four. *

She then*retired to her room for the night, where she opened the envelope and*started focusing on the image and attempted to telepathically send the*image to the dreamers. *

In the meantime, the dreamers have now retired*and set an intention to receive the image in their dreams.

On Sunday, the dreamers complete and submit a Psi Dream Contest*Entry Form, where they title the dream, answer questions detailing*specific features of their dreams and are asked to guess at what the*target is.

On Monday the images are displayed and the entrants are then asked to*guess which of the four images was the target. *

This is the image that Suzanne chose:

It is the Major Arcana, 5 Knowledge, card from the Shapeshifter Tarot*Deck, which is equivalent to the Hierophant card in a traditional deck. It*shows a woman shapeshifting into an elephant and represents, learning*
as "Knowledge is the Bringer of the Light, and the woman ..represents the living link to the eternal Sacred Mysteries."

The first 14 words of the WINNER's dream report reads, "Woman with a*highly developed spiritual consciousness and KNOWLEDGE and*experience of other realms." At the end of the dream she reports seeing*
the woman at a table with flashcards in front of her with images on them*and says, "I feel drawn to looking at the images on the cards."

Our 2nd place dreamer titled his dream, "Gold Star Face" and his dream*report reads, "Image of a 5 pointed gold star. *In the center is a face. The*face makes a comical face at me."

Our 3rd place dreamer, in response to the question on the contest entry*form, "What do you think the target image is?" answered, "A Star" and drew a picture of a five-pointed star.

Three great hits! *In addition, there were a number of great hits on the 3*non-target images (the three that remained in the unopened envelopes).*

This, too, is not unusual. *There are also some great correspondences*between the dreamers that have nothing to do with any of the images.

Once again this year, our dreamers were all swimming together in a*cosmic ocean of dreams.

Test your dreaming mind's ability to tune into our “sender” psychically during the night.

The annual IASD contest is a playful but surprisingly successful way to test your psychic skills.

Below are the instructions and details concerning this year’s contest, which is officially being called a “psi” contest rather than a “telepathy” contest because we know there are other psychic channels by which information can be obtained.

This year we are returning to the old protocol of one target image chosen from a pool of four.*

How is the TARGET Selected and Sent?*

Four color images, as unlike from each other as possible, have been placed in four opaque envelopes.

The “Sender”, Angel Morgan, will select one of the four envelopes.

The image within the selected envelope will be the TARGET for the contest.

Angel will open the envelope upon returning to her room for the night.

She will focus on the image and then “act out” the image by engaging in physical activities to experience the sensed emotionality, hear or make any potential sounds associated with the image, and to “become” the target image in as many ways as possible.

Angel is a lucid dreamer,

so

she will also attempt to incorporate the target imagery into her dreams.*

Why are you asking for my birth information with the Dream Report?*

We are interested in seeing if there is a correlation between planetary placement in astrological charts and successful psi dreaming.

In previous research Bob was involved with, he found some striking correspondences in dream images that he and another woman (a stranger to him) experienced one night even though there was a distance of 500 miles between them while sleeping.

While doing some follow up work, it was discovered that he and this woman shared many astrological placements in common. We are hoping to investigate this more extensively.*

Please be advised that judging will only be done on the Onsite submissions, but you are encouraged to identify your own hits and toot your own horn in the discussion thread.
