      Failed Shared Dreaming

This morning in two of my lucid dreams, I decided to locate certain people I know in real life, who also might be sleeping at the same time.

I located 3 people. In the dream I convinced them that we're all inside a dream together. Then we had lengthy conversations and agreed to talk about this experience after waking up. At one point I was actually convinced that they were those guys, and not just regular dream characters.

Anyway, after waking up, I called them on the phone. Two of them remember their dreams, and they were completely different (absolutely no similarities), plus the third person wasn't even asleep at that time.

This isn't the first time I have had such experiences. In the dream I am almost certain that these DCs are "dreaming with me", but when I wake up, I realize this is bogus.

      Comments?

Well, at least something funny happened: A funny situation

Oh, and if someone is curious, these two lucid dreams were both DILDs caused by reality testing. More specifically: looking at my hands and counting my fingers.

I had 6 fingers on each hand.

I know you didn't say that you are experimenting, but, if you want to experiment on this you got to let those people that you know in real that you are doing this experiment and you ask permission from them to do so. Now that what you did didn't work you can try what i just said, and if that don't work it don't mean it won't. I think you need to stop pressuring yourself on this, maybe that's the problem.

If you want to make sure they remember, you have to wake them up. Best way to wake someone up is to kill them.

Actually, the way I would wake someone up is to put my leg in front of theirs, tripping them, and push them forward slamming their faces as forcefully as possible into the ground. Sounds cruel, but it's harmless and should wake them up instantly, leaving them with a vivid memory of the dream

Are you sure about that? Wouldn't Gills' "experiment" be more effective if he surprised his friends? After all, if he asks permission ahead of time he runs the risk of shared expectations rather than shared dreams, doesn't he? In other words if he tells his friends they might all have dreams about each other and, being friends, those dreams might just be similar based on similar expectations.

He could apologize later for the intrusion, I suppose, but I have a feeling the mechanism of shared dreaming (if there is one) doesn't require mutual agreement or planning.

LOL well everyone is different, you know you can't just show up in a persons house in real and get a "Oh hi surprised to see you" reply from a stranger especially close friends don't like this if they want to be respected.
All i can say is me myself in dreams, i act similar when in waking life, i don't like intruders.

^^ Remember, though, that the OP is Gills... do you think his friends would really be surprised at the intrusion? And, being his understanding friends, wouldn't they forgive, eventually? [I say that with my tongue in cheek, Gills, I hope you won't take exception]

Seriously, and possibly on topic: I think I misinterpreted your first post. My post assumed that you were saying that he needed permission for the dream-sharing to work, rather than just to be equitable to his targets. I remember now that you don't believe that ... sorry for the confusion.

^^ Oh crap. Was I supposed to "Like" that, Hathor? I'm a little thick at times!

Let me know in case I have to "un-like" to recover some face.
