There is a breath induced method I once read about. I do not remember it well, and I do not suggest for anyone to do it. It constituted of (in a group of people and at least one instructor) breathing extensively during sitting meditation. When done under the guidance of a qualified person, when it is done right, it leads to people re living their traumatic experiences and resolving them. Sense of reality is lost completely. A common experience is "reliving" their birth - the peaceful time they were in the womb and the traumatic and painful experience of the birth. Again, do not try it. Flooding your brain with extreme amounts of excess oxygen might not be really safe...

Another method that we used to do in primary school for fun was the opposite - starving your brain of oxygen. A person would breathe deeply in and out as much as possible for 10 seconds, then he would stand up against a wall and another person would squeeze his neck and push hard on the area just below the ribs. I guess this blocked the blood flow to the brain. He would do it just until the other person passes out, which takes about 6 seconds. When I did it, I remember during the first few seconds a weird, unattached sensation to the world, and during the time I was unconscious (about 5 seconds) I re experienced the entire journey to school from the same morning. The 5 seconds seemed much longer than they really were. Anyway, not everyone reported any unusual experiences. Again, I do not suggest you try this out, as the experience was overall quite uncomfortable.
Mindfulness is the aware, balanced acceptance of the present experience.
It isn't more complicated that that.
It is opening to or recieving the present moment, pleasant or unpleasant, just as it is,
without either clinging to it or rejecting it.

As a skydiver and an educated human, I have to say that the "excess oxygen" and "oxygen deprivation" ideas are bogus. Skydiving from above 15,000 ft. requires jumpers to breathe pure oxygen (100%) before jumping and for a certain time before jumping, depending on exit altitude. That's much more oxygen than can go to the brain from breathing atmospheric air: Nitrogen about 78%, Oxygen about 21% (at sea level). It has no effect on the brain or any cognitive funtion.

And low levels of oxygen result in hypoxia, which result in nausea all the way up to death.

Stay away from ideas like that. It's bad information from people that want a quick high.

I recently discovered that anything in the outer boundaries of your field of vision is sort of half-seen and becomes very suggestable. I tried focussing my eyes on one spot while focussing my attention on my cellphone that was lying at the edge of my field of vision. It started morphing into strange forms and seemed to have a strange kind of movement. It's more likely that this is the Mis-interpretation of suggestable things you can't immediately recognise rather than an actual hallucination.

Alternatively you could sit next to a mirror so that your mirror image starts morphing in this same way.
It's fun to do since when you're focussing on another location than the place your eyes are staring you will eventually no longer see what is actually in front of your eyes, but only the object on which your attention is focussing.

How come? Hallucinations are often experienced as something negative as they are always associated with high fever, sleep deprivation, starvation, overexposure to extreme cold, dehydration and when you're going psychotic-/Schizo- crazy.

I have experienced otherwise on magic mushrooms: Bright purple skies, stars that float in the sky, the ceiling looking about 4 meters higher than it actually is, the inside of the toilet melting down, rapid moving "belts" of colored patterns on every wall and ceiling: I've found these very inspiring for my Graphic artwork.
But also on nights I simply had alot of creative inspiration: I looked at a buddha face hanging on our fence in the garden and imagined it opening it's closed eyes. It actually worked. I saw it's eyes slowly open and they were bright, Maple-syrup colored eyes with black irises and pupils. Eventually I could hold this image and watch as the buddha's face was looking me in the eyes from under his half-openend eyelids. I was overjoyed that my Imagination was so powerfull that it could actually change the way I percieve reality.

In this case hallucinating and related phenomena can be very inspiring. Especially when you're a graphic artist about to go to art college; that is when hallucinations bring artistic creative insight; which is Sweet to me.

Did you manage to do that with or without any drugs?

Ok I know this is old, but....
I said I would post back when I found out more about hallucinating naturally.
and Bonsay, SKA did that without drugs.

Ok so I have been able to successfully figure out that you CAN indeed naturally hallucinate. People that take drugs often report that they can experience the effects of it after it's worn off completely. For instance one guy said that he can now make the walls breathe in and out without any drugs. Although he has taken acid a few times.

I believe that the same thing has happened to me, except I have always been able to do it. When I lay still and relax my mind with my eyes open, I can make the roof go upwards, my bed float through the ceiling, everything go white or black, make colours appear, basically morph objects etc.

I have only ever smoked weed. But my point is that these hallucinogens can open up pathways in your brain that you may not have known about before, and afterward it is a lot easier to access these pathways, just like when you learn to walk it's a lot easier to walk again from then on.

If somebody can't do these things already no matter how relaxed they are it can help to smoke some weed or do a little bit of mushrooms etc. I'm not advising it, but if you want natural hallucinations this is the way to go.
They basically help you access these parts of your brain more easily, and you may not believe that it's possible until you take these hallucinogens and realise "Holy F$%^, my brain just did that, I just did that!.

So yeh, I have been able to take these out of the relaxed state and perform them while I'm walking around and fully active etc. I can't explain it all now, it's late but if you wanna know more, I know one guy said he wanted to hallucinate naturally, then just PM me.

Is there a way to unlock this handicap of logic and give yourself hallucinations? I'm sure most people here have a lust for the un-ordinary and escape from reality.

PLEASE don't suggest drugs, I might just do so =P
If that is what you are after then Sleep deprivation will do the trick....HOWEVER, schizophrenia is NOT something you want.
if you are still interested just pay a visit to a halfway house for schizophrenics, actually strike that Volunteer at a halfway house
I think you will find it illuminating.

I disagree, seeing someone experiencing something and actually experiencing it are two completely different things and experiencing it yourself would be the illuminating part.

I have hallucinated one night few weeks ago and it was scary as all crap. What had happened was i was slightly sleep deprived 4 less hrs of sleep than i usually get for about 4 days, and a gnat flew into each of my eyes. It was about 7ish low light and in mainly my peripheral vision i saw bugs, I saw a big tarantula on my leg, i freaked out looked down and there wasn't one, then i was cleaning up from dinner and i saw a roach run into a bowl of mac & cheese i looked inside and there was nothing. It was scary, but could also been paranoia from being at my cabin where there are lots of bugs. Or my brain making images out of fragments of gnats.

Theirs ways to affect your consciousness through breath work, I wouldn't suggest starving yourself of oxygen... but there are ways.

No ones really gonna kill themselves by stopping their breathing.... lol

It's actually the opposite to oxygen that people try to get high on. Well, kind of.... it's really a lack of carbon dioxide. Coz they breathe in really quickly for a minute or so which doesn't give the lungs a chance to create carbon dioxide then they make sure they don't get any of either and I'm pretty sure the person who made this up was crazy. Probably trying to kill himself/herself.
It's something like that anyway, can't remember exactly. But who on here said it gets you high? They need a good beating. Pure oxygen can make you feel good but only if you don't have 100% oxygen in your blood already, which most people should.

I have been searching for a way to unlock my imagination too. What I have found is the art of memory, visualization training and opening your third eye through meditation. They are all basicly training of the imagination.. theres no fast way I think, except drugs and lucid dreaming. Everyone has an extremely creative mind, you can notice this in your dreams. But how do you use this power of the mind during waking life? Maybe the art of memory is the key. www.pmemory.com has a free e-book on it.

I worked nights many years ago. There were times I was up for 24-48 hours straight. 60 hours is the longest. I never hallucinated, I just got a horrible headache, extremely irritable and nauseous. So there's no guarantee you will experience anything other than misery. I will say, though, that when you are sleep deprived, you go into REM almost instantly when you do fall asleep, but I don't think you have to do 60 hours for that to start happening.

Everyone keeps speaking of headaches but when I didn't sleep for 4 days I had no effects whatsoever... except for a kind of ''different'' feeling of my whole body but it wasn't annoying or negative in anyway.

This is what 2012 will look like. Or at least, the period after 2012. I do not suspect this, I know this. At least...for SOME, For MANY it will be doom, cause they clinge to our failing society which is a sinking ship, which will be totally emersed in 2012. For some, and I fear the minority of people, this will actually be a liberation: the downfall of the Selfconsuming system of opression. his gives way to developping the Spiritual Splendor and capabilities of the human mind. Something the Maya and Aztec cultures were very occupied with.
There are tools for unlocking/liberating and developping this long lost, opressed and forgotten divine aspect of the Human Psyche. Most notably they are Ayahuasca/DMT(DiMethylTryptamine), Psilocybin/Psilocyn (Magic Mushrooms), Mescaline(Peyote and San pedro Cacti), Salvinorin A. (Salvia Divinorum) and LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide).

Too bad all of them are illegal in most countries (Ayahuasca, Psilocybin Mushrooms, Mescaline Cacti and Salvia being Legal and for sale in my Country The Netherlands) They have been outlawed and taboo-ed throughout the history of our culture from the moments we came into contact with them. Catholic Spanish Conquistadores deemed these entheogenic, divinatory plants and their native South-American users as "Satanic"and thus they were demonised in our culture, dispite their great positive powers, Religious Value and great therapeutic Value.

Our culture is one heading for quick doom, because we're running out of awareness. Out of awareness of how much we are a part of this world and how much we need it and all it's beings to live in Harmony and Symbiosis for our own survival. We are in a methaphorical sense consuming our own bodies; Consuming only and giving nothing back. We are living a Self-Consuming lifestyle and by 2012 we willhave devoured ourselves. We're therefor falling into megadoom. Psychedelics are an EXCELLENT way of reconnecting to that ancient awareness, and breaking loose from that system so it doesn't drag us down with it.

No matter what authorities, and all the people into who's head they stuffed their lies and ignorance, might say about Psychedelics. In this time where the massive FAILURE of our destructive Consumerism-societies become more and more appearant to more and more people, it off course is no wonder that more and more people question their authority's "morals", rules and laws, and as a result more and more people turn to and try out Psychedelics.

Asking for ways of inducing Hallucinations without using Psycho-active substances is much like asking for Asking for ways to Fuel an engine without the use of Fuel. It may be Illegal and an incredible cultural Taboo, but if you want Hallucinations... Truely inspiring, otherworldy, sophisticated, beautyfully artistic imagery to enter this Reality, then it is about time for you to seriously Thumb your Nose at Authority. Otherwise stay "safe and sound" within the borders of our Will-less Labour Slave-society. I certainly know on which side of said borders I stand.

Well said glad I'm not the only one.

But you can have otherworldy touches without taking mind expanding drugs, though it becomes easier to get in touch with this after having done some.

Yogis I know have a connection to this without drugs, long hours of meditation and concentration.

ok i know you sayed not to say drugs but this is legal and its the safest way safer than LSD or anything else if you take the right dose. ok gets some dremamine *benadril or sleeping pills just anything with that drug in it* next take 250-350mg or 8 pills of benadril then the strongest Hallucinations possible can happend like your whole world can shift into something way deffriant like poeple call it dreaming while awake, you just get so tierd that your body just starts dreaming in real life some poeple say they can even make out these Hallucinations from real life so they think there real even if there like a dragon, its insane jsut make shore you have a friend with you to watch out for you.

I wouldn't suggest benadryl... did that shit when I was younger and all it made me feel like was an idiot...

I'd stick to the real hallucinogens... Shrooms, acid, peyote, etc..

I think it depends on the sort of hallucination, coming from a person afflicted with schizophrenia. Yeah, inducing a hallucination might be different. I mean jesus christ probably was a hysteric. He saw things that society didn't believe in, there IS truth to that, I think.

But, going through a crisis is different then some hallucinations. They vary in extremities as they ARE a part of our biological makeup. We see things sometimes for a reason just like the voice that jumps out at you and says, "No way!" Our culture is declining both mentally and spiritually. Those left with brain disorders are also afflicted with a sort of spawn of society's own issues.

If people want to go ahead and start saying "Schizophrenia" it varies, it's supposedly like uncommon but that's not what I see. I see everyone, in their own little worlds and none of them are getting the whole picture. Like the elephant story, either it's a hose or it's a foot. I don't know?

I do know that Shamanism works. I have used some alternative methods to relieve emotional issues, and it works. Placebo effect? Not really, call it "Awaken the Mind" effect...as opposed to some generic drugs that will cure a headache with caffeine.

These days everyone wants to shut it up...but there are things just so obvious but no one wants to know anything anymore, or do they?
Hallucinations are not bad. Shakespeare was probably on Marijuana. The war on drugs is a war on something else...just more subdue the masses.

I remember when I was young and hallucinations were different, they were Imagination.
I used to have intense Hypnogogic dreams upon falling asleep. hell, those were harmless and fascinating probably like Salivia would be but I don't do drugs.

It ALL depends on your approach. Oh and something like Benadryl is just stupid.

I think this method is called gazing, and it doesn't necessarily have to be done with a mirror. I do this every night before I go to bed and it relaxes me. I lay with my eyes open gazing in a wide view, and my eyes go crazy. I see all kinds of strange colors, hazes, and waves. Give it a try. I use BWG also to help.
I am a man. I have nothing to show off. I am just a person withnothingexcept for what I would like to show off, which is nothing.

Yeah, that's how people see things they've seen on hallucinogens. Well, at least that's how I do it.

skyS, SKa and DeathCell - Glad you guys are living on this planet!
Yes I agree you don't NEED hallucinogens to hallucinate. It just helps. You can get exactly the same state with meditation. Just takes longer.

cootime - Do you know what that is? It's called DXM. Dangerous as hell. Physically.
Mentally, yeh it can be awesome, but there's physically safer alternatives.
Just because it's legal doesn't mean it's safe.

Skys - "as opposed to some generic drugs that will cure a headache with caffeine."
I have come to realise this is exactly why some drugs are legal and others aren't. Besides the obvious, (government/authorities don't want people to see the really important things in life, the truth, the bare basics etc. etc. because then we'll stop consuming and filling their money bags) most legal drugs are legal because they help people work = economic drugs.
