      Astral Projection: The Rope Method

Well, after some searching, I did manage to find out some information about astral projection (OBEs). Most of the information came from sites that looked like they were straight out of 1997 and reeked of sketchiness. But once I found some reliable sources, I found out that the "Rope Method" is a popular AP (Astral Projection) induction technique.

Sorry, if this is already posted on the forum.
Let me note that this is not my own idea.
And I did completely follow directions and I still almost succeeded on my first try.
      1. (This is optional, but I'm sure it helps). Pin a string to the ceiling. It should be with arm's reach of you when you lay down to sleep. This will help you memorize where the rope's spatial coordinates are.
      2. Make sure your room will be quiet and dark when you go to try this.
      3. This shall come as no surprise, but relax. Any relaxation technique that clears your mind will suffice. I like to imagine my thoughts as clouds that are blown away as I exhale. You can do the WILD-style breathing technique. Doesn't matter. Just relax.
      4. Imagine your astral left arm taking hold of the coarse rope. (The rope is invisible, so think of it as grabbing a rope in the dark). Then, place your astral right arm right over your left arm.
      5. With each breath, climb the rope hand over hand. Sensations will strike you. As you climb up more and more, you might feel a sense of vertigo and your lower stomach may feel pinned to the bed. Your head may go somewhat numb, and you will probably feel vibrations. Ignore the sensations. Be a soldier. Climb that rope!
      6. Do step 5 long enough, and you'll be out. Simple as that.
This method is very popular and very fast. One site even said that if you spend more than 15 minutes on steps 4-6, then give up! This is perfect for noobs and impatient people. Or anyone, for that matter. Go ahead, give it a try.

You don't need it to make it work. You just need to know where your "rope" is located.

I've heard that it's cool, so go ahead and give it a try. Besides, anything that happens is natural. In fact, some people say the OBEs are recorded in the Bible (don't know where, though).

      Thanks for Sharing

Sounds cool, I've never tried to do this, not even a WILD, so I have a few questions.

You almost succeeded, since then have you actually succeeded?

Is this all I need to know, sounds simple?

Should I wake up at night to try this, or before I go to sleep?

Sorry if this is kinda off topic, but would you be able to see other people's astral projections if you have one?

The "Rope Method" if i am not mistaken is just an easy way to produce the vibrations, just like falling sensations will do. This is a very popular method and it is really easy, but it takes a long time. If you are not properly hydrated you will get cotton mouth and you will be unconfortable, so you will not be relaxed and yada yada. Anyway though, good idea bringing this to this site.

I've tried it a few times before, no ap though. What I did find out is that the rope technique is a fast way for me to get into a deep trance.
I believe i didn't ap, since i let my breathing get erratic when i started feeling my energy body being pulled out from my physical one.

how do you define wrong? If you mean by not being able to wake up or being attacked, guess the probability does exist, as it does for everything.
Things can go as wrong as they can in a dream and they only do so because you let them. Fearing strongly that something will go wrong is almost the same as making it go wrong.
Be open, be positive and nothing "bad" will happen.

I've never really understood why people would fear OBEs or lucids or anything "transcendental".

This seems tight, I have a question, is there a difference between AP, and Lucid Dreaming?

Yeah, AP is actually being outside the body and Lucid dreaming is knowing that you're dreaming, am I right?

Ok, that's a little confusing, AP is being outside your body...so then it's a dream, right?

Can't it be considered a LD as well, because your outside your own body, and you have control right?

      ...what?? How is that possible?

So, your saying that your body is lying there on the bed, and your astrail (however it's spelled) and can just walk around ???

The concept of astral projection assumes the existence of another body, separate from the physical body and capable of traveling to non-physical planes of existence.

      ^ Taken from Wikipedia.

You can do stuff you normally can't in the physical world like flying going through objects and traveling to an astral plane. I've never done this myself but it's very interesting.

      Here's a website that explains it a bit http://www.lucidcrossroads.co.uk/astral.htm

You might be dreaming it, I guess no one knows really.

I've tried the rope technique before. I got vibrations, numbness and a weird feeling like I was turning, quickly compared to any other method. The only problem is that when I got these feelings I got too excited and stopped climbing the rope.

Has anyone had any success with it? Do you think it will help to do some relaxing techniques first? Because I'm focussing much more on them now, and they seem to be useful when used with any technique. I've never managed to get "out" though.

What I was thinking of doing was relaxing techniques until the point where I get vibrations, and then doing the rope technique. What do you think of that? It's very frustrating because although I've had all these sensations, I've never actually got to the point where I have been paralysed. Any tips?

The only time I've actually had an OBE was due to SP... Opposed to LD's it was as clear as reality is, and I had a firm body, the same clothes as I was sleeping in, and I didn't know I was dreaming. So yes, it is in a way different than LD's. However, after a while it became less lucid, and was more like a mediocre LD. I flipped off a clip and woke up.

As for AP techniques, I've tried many of them to little success. However, these techniques are closely linked to meditating, and feel great to do. I recommend everybody to try, even though you're not necessarily going to succeed.

I can get the feeling on nonphysical arms climbing the rope, but just can't detach my head and torso to get free of my body.
