Cool lucid! I like the way your mind put the band together and put a wrench in the mechanics of the ocean waves and surfers! And of course bringing the lady along for the ride...

It works better in non-lds. I wonder if our rationality (i.e. trying to reason out the contents perhaps), might be causing additional thoughts and hence the famous text instability? I don't recall reading a book in an ld, but there have been semi-lucid instances where I have skimmed through books, newspapers. Unfortunately, the book I remember reading was a business textbook, and while it made perfect sense, it wasn't something I look forward to reading in my dreams.

Your reading adventures got me so excited, I was close to suggesting this for TOTM. Checked the thread and there are lots of suggestions already so maybe it's not going to be selected. That won't stop me from going for this awesome task! I really want to spend some ld time browsing through books now! Altenative inventions, physics, meta physics, I wonder what my mind will come up with!

Thanks. it was. It was nice going with the flow and enjoying the general goal of maximizing vividness. I'm learning to let go a bit and not force goals that are too far out of reach. One step at a time, you know? That first step, the crucial one, is making sure that the dream is as vivid and rich as I can make it. Other goals, if I can remember them and choose to pursue them, can follow from there I think. Looking back at Task of the Year successes from 2013, I always based it off of a quite stable lucid dream with lots of confidence. Building that base is worth the time I think.

This sounds like a nice relaxed LD. Sometimes goals takes away from the experience.

Yeah, people do indeed use peanut butter as a lucid aid! In fact, my trippiest lucid of all time came after eating a whole bunch of peanut butter. I've never been able to replicate the experience w/ peanut butter but it was pretty extraordinary the one time that it worked!

Thanks, Highlander! I was worried about whether that one was going to go anywhere, but in the end I was treated to a cool setting, cool DCs, and cool clothes... can't complain about that!

The realistic DCs always shock me on some level, no matter how many times I encounter them.

Sounds like my type of meeting!
P.S. Do some people use peanut butter as a (lucid) dream food/supplement or aid?

Sounds a cool dream, especially the part with the suit, the woman and the ocean.

It's awesome going through books in a dream, especially if they are nicely illustrated!
Hey, have you ever been able to flip through a book and read it in depth? That's still not something I've been able to really do without getting a bunch of text-shifting and confusion. I swear that I can do this easily in waking life!

Ha ha, thanks, looking back the fight was pretty fun. That moment when you first become lucid is interesting because you're lucid but you haven't thought through all the implications of how much control and power you have. So I was in a mode of knowing I was pretty safe and that yes, it's okay to scuffle with Samuel L. Jackson, but hadn't really thought of a more graceful way to handle things.

I hear you on the chocolate!! They were so good, seriously, but the way they'd just kind of evaporate left me never satisfied.

Aren't these books always so interesting? It's been a while since I gave my reading a serious test. Hey you know what? Do you think we could hand a book to a DC (particularly the book's author!) and have them read it to us? To avoid the whole text-shifting thing? I need to have more LDs!!

Who would have thought that Samuel Jackson was waiting for you during an ld! You did a great job kicking his ass. What a mean way to catch you off guard with the Mediterranean DC. One must be alert at all times!

Great dream control with the hulk-jump!

There are little plates of small chocolate bars that I keep sampling. They taste delicious but they fade too quickly, almost as if they were so light and insubstantial that you only get a moment to taste them
Nooo! I just can't handle this!

It’s by the writers we ate with and it’s about how early civilizations made fantastic technological leaps forward by using ideas that came to them in lucid dreams. I’m excited by the whole premise of the book
Another cool dream including books! Next time I start complaining that having lds in my place is boring I just have to either head for the fridge or a bookshelf. The book you found is really worth reading!

I think I'd be tempted to swap all that gunpowder, bronze and Gallic testosterone for Absinthe, Opium, those corsets and the Victorian Gin house maybe?
      Ha, couldn't agree more!

      Thanks guys.

I just really enjoy that history stuff. Reminds me a bit, highlander, of your Napoleonic dream from a few weeks back.

@Xanous - Thanks, I was really hoping to get that button too! I think that my confidence failed me in the end. Got to keep believing, even when something seems too impossible/cool to accomplish.

      @dreambh - Thanks!

@nyxCC - Yeah, I was really pleased with the DC's answer. In the dream, I became giddy because I liked the answer so much. In retrospect it's funny that I got quite that excited, but what can I say? I get pumped up about tasks sometimes.

@Highlander and fogelbise - Yeah, I really liked the interesting historical DCs. This is guaranteed to come out wrong, but I wish that I could have interacted with them a bit more to see what characters like this would be like. (I know how it sounds, but that's not what I mean! ) I just really enjoy that history stuff. Reminds me a bit, highlander, of your Napoleonic dream from a few weeks back.

@Highlander - Ha ha, I remember your encounter with Morgan Freeman! I had one Morgan Freeman dream myself but he was quite friendly and helpful. You never know which celebrities will be there to help you and which ones will be there to brawl with you as soon as your LD starts.

@fogelbise - Thank you, man! You're right. For all I know, I'm a DC in someone else's elaborate dream right now, but I'd certainly scoff at anyone who tried to tell me so.

@dreambh - Thanks! Yeah, I definitely raged there at the beginning and didn't handle myself all that well, but hey, sometimes you just want to win. I'm always a bit amazed/amused by my own lack of impulse control in dreams. I never go into these expecting to slug anyone, but sometimes it just seems to happen, ha ha...

@Nyx - Thanks, heh heh, I was a little nastier than I usually mean to be, but like I said, no impulse control! Emotions just sweep me right up, even in lucids. It's amazing how easily those currents can carry me away in dreams compared to waking life.

@NyxCC and Highlander - Thanks, I'm glad not to be the only one!

I like that you mind created Victorian-era prostitutes...I love seeing glimpses of history or things that make you wonder where they came from!

Hey, you might have been Neo! Nice pair of LDs once again! Just imagine if you had wrote a book and someone walked up to you during a book signing (or a café) telling you that you were in his lucid dream...actually we would probably RC in that case.
