    On a Dark Rooftop

This lucid was extremely short (perhaps 20 seconds), a length that I'd normally consider a micro-lucid and not journal here. But it was so vivid and striking that it's really stuck with me. It's one of those dreams where you just remember every detail.

Lucid #73: On a Dark Rooftop

I'm pawing at hypnagogic imagery, and I sense that I can reach out with my hand to touch a solid floor. It works, and a dream scene takes shape. It's night and I'm crouched on the rooftop of a one-story house on the crest of a hill. I'm dressed in head-to-toe in black (yes, I admit, like a ninja ) and I feel silent, coordinated, and infinitely agile.

I look all around me. Suburban streets lie in every direction. There's a faint reddish glow on the horizon, and I sense some kind of threat or danger gathering in the distance.

In my head, I clearly hear the voice of an old man: "Even in these dark days, my people yet retain a shadow of their former glory."

His words fill me with an enormous sense of urgency -- I have work to do. A cold wind picks up. I prepare to leap to an adjacent rooftop,
    but the dream ends.

I work at DEILD for a while, but just can't get back in.

I like it! That sounds like the beginning of an epic story. Too bad you woke up. Were you going for a WILD or did it just sort of happen with the imagery?

Man, it sucks that you couldn't return. Sounded like an awesome environment for buttkicking badassery or hardcore parkour And it sounded like the plot would have been pretty sweet had you chosen to follow it.

I was indeed going for a WILD! This was actually off of galantamine night. Do you remember how I said I was going to go for 8 mg w/ 600 mg of GPC? Well, I did that while managing to forget the L-theanine. So yeah, insomnia was pretty bad. It did lead to this awesome dream but the thing was apparently too unstable to hang on to.

Thanks, man. It really did. I kept trying and trying to get back in and force my brain to tell me the rest of that story.

I agree, losing this one was brutal! I was so thrilled yet so sad after this one ended.

And yes, exactly on the whole buttkicking/parkour angle. The WILD had dropped me into a dream with either a fully-formed or rapidly-emerging backstory that had me totally believing that I was freakishly agile and dressed like this: You know how I'm always sobbing and blowing my nose in your dream journal about how I want to get the kind of action dreams you get? Well here one was, all teed up, and me lucid, dressed like a badass, and some kind of cool story bubbling up from the subC. Perfect... until I wake up.

This all makes me so curious about how plot emergence works. Because I did not know all of the backstory details when the dream ended. But I had this sense like they would be revealed to me if I followed the course of the story. Does this mean that the subC had put the story together and was just showing me bits and pieces of it as needed? Or is everything composed on the fly?

Given how plot-rich your dreams tend to be, I'm sure this question has crossed your mind before. How much more dream is there below the surface that you never see?

Yes! This is such a fascinating question. I think I'm more inclined to say it is created on the fly, because I know random wayward thoughts I have in the dream usually happen or are talked about by other characters.

      You'll get another!

Yeah, my guess is that you're right. It's sort of like really good improv, you know? Where you watch it and think, "How do they just come up with stuff like that?"

And thanks! You're right, this is the attitude I should take. This dream was just a taste, right?

Ah I forgot what day it was! Sorry about the insomnia. Did you intend to leave L-theanine out?

I think it is mostly. I have to be very careful with my DJ. I have noticed that while trying to recall a dream I often invent a false memory in my drowsy half asleep state. It's really amazing how creative your brain can be.

No, this was quite accidental! I also got a little too cozy before WBTB and only had about 1.5 hours until my alarm was going off, which made me slightly anxious.

I also had some mild nausea for a couple of minutes after getting up, so I'll be dialing the G back next time regardless.

Having said that, it wasn't a total failure, but definitely a qualified success at best. I did have an additional, much less interesting lucid fragment of a woman standing next to a mirror. Blew up in perhaps 2 seconds, though.

Ah you just needed more time! I would probably go with less G too though. Insomnia is the worst.
