    Color legend: Non-dream Dream Lucid

    Lucid #156: Split

I'm somewhere hazy, talking with IR, a friend from high school. She tells me that she feels like her physical fitness is stagnating and that she's getting old. I'm preparing to disagree when I suddenly become confused and worry that this will be misunderstood and taken as a flirtation. My brain feels stuck in slow motion, and when I wonder why, I realize that I'm dreaming.

IR is gone, and now I'm walking through a darkened hallway. I step through a door into an office with two desks in it. To my left is a window offering a nighttime view of the city. A woman, professional-looking and in her late 30s, walks toward me from the opposite end of the office.

As I prepare to tell her that this is all a dream, the scene "rewinds" a few seconds, and now I'm walking through the door again, and just as before, the woman is at the opposite end of the room. I walk toward her as before, and again the scene resets, placing me back at the door.

Confusion is starting to get the best of me, so from the door I blurt to her (and to me) "I'm having a lucid dream!" She approaches and we exchange a few sentences related to a project that I'm working on, but I can't remember what was said. (I didn't write this dream down until several hours later.)

The scene starts hazing out as she's talking to me, so I move toward her and start kissing her. This seems to keep things on an even keel for a bit, but as things take a shift toward sexytime, it quits working and I wind up in the void.

I rub my hands together for a while, holding things together. My brain feels very foggy and I'm aware that I'm having real trouble thinking clearly in this dream. I just keep rubbing my hands together, hoping that the answer will come to me, but eventually I find myself aware of my physical body.

The amazing part is that when I concentrate, I realize that I can still feel the experience of my dream hands rubbing together. I start getting mixed up about which set of hands is real and which is fake. Sensing the opportunity to "roll out" of the situation and have an OBE-style lucid dream, I try to imagine myself pulling away from my body. It feels like it's working, but the dream takes one last lurch toward instability
    and collapses.

      Sounds like a 'win-win' situation!

Well done for gaining awareness from the scenario - we all need to be so lucky.

It is strange that the door scene 'repeated' like as it has some relevance or importance (usually a metaphor IWL.)
It is a pity that you didn't get some of the dialogue down which might have shed more light or insight on the project you are working on.

I have had a couple or so dreams where I'm opening things (usually cupboard doors or shutters) but instead of being one, I find there is one behind the other like 3-4 of them, and I'm trying to get out/through.

Congrats with the dream hands BTW.

Yeah, I wish that I'd been able to remember a bit more of the discussion because the project under discussion is extremely important to me. If my subconscious has a message for me about it, I hate to make it keep repeating itself.

The door repeating was a very strange little glitch. I couldn't even figure out what the point of it was or why it was happening. My best guess is I had a weird sense of motion and that was what my mind came up with to explain it. The second time might have been anxiety that it would happen again... so of course it did.

Heh, it's cute that you get the "matryoshka doll" effect of repeatedly opening things. This was in a way similar to that. Yours makes more sense though.

With me, I find it a bit unnerving. I first noticed it after attempting TOTM. It might be down to anxiety with me as well I think.

A good dreamsign though - recommended!

Exactly... in dreams, the momentum behind these little things that go wrong can be incredible. Since you're creating everything, perception is literally reality... something I am trying to master is arresting those trains of thought and engaging my will rather than my fear.

I suppose it is akin to a Salmon (the dreamer) jumping and trying to go upstream on a fast-flowing river (the dream.)

With hard work you can get there and go against the flow. Good luck.

And when we're at our best, with only the softest touch we can gently bend and steer the whole river in a new direction.

That ability to "flow" is something I have a lot of work to do on, but it is amazing in those (rare for me) moments when it all just clicks and you feel like you're fully at the helm.

Really cool effects with this dream. Man, those glitches keep me wondering what more there is to dream contents. I mean, we are used to time flowing in one direction only, but in dreams all the cause and effect relationships are much more fluid and faster. I'm pretty sure with practice and more glitches, we may be able to work with another evasive dream subject, i.e. time.

That effect was really interesting. I guess, you have gotten really good with probing your dream body, so you could get a hold of it, even when you were waking up. Sometimes, getting in the dream body is so effortless, I wish I knew how to cause more of those situations to happen though. Similarly, I've had rare moments, where I could cause an image, i.e. dreamlet to appear as I am falling asleep by the sheer act of will. Unfortunately, such occurrences are very random, but let's hope we have more of these in the future and get to fully utilize them.

Yes! One of the most tantalizing LD goals of them all. Just the thought, just the idea that we could draw time out like that...

No kidding, that's awesome! How much control have you got over these images and their contents? Sounds like a great ability, especially if you can fire this up as you're slipping under for a WILD or DEILD!

I think it helped me with WILD twice, maybe I was closer to actual sleep then. On the rest of the occasions, it was just a quick flash but still very detailed. I am not sure...maybe you get your dreamlets quite easily. My visual skills are not that good, so this is a welcome improvement even if random. Maybe it has to do with visualization? I'm quite keen to practice more of it to see how far one can push it.
