    The Mirror

Alright, lets get this out of the way. I have Catoptrophobia. I can't say that it is incredibly bad, but I get really paranoid around mirrors. Especially in a dark area. I don't think I will ever get over it. Oh well, its not a huge deal. I'll just make sure my room never has a mirror in it.

The dream began with my friends at some campground. It was around a ocean, and we needed to go to Walmart to get some food for dinner. We returned later and we decide to take a nap. I end up falling asleep and waking up in my loft.
Odd... I don't sleep in my loft. At least, not since I had my Exploding Head Syndrome incident. Too creepy.
I did a reality check and discovered I was dreaming. It was a very vivid dream. The only somewhat blurry area was the top of my view. Thats when I noticed something in front of me. A mirror. I was terrified.
In real life I become incredibly paranoid and imagine the worst possible thing that could happen. I expect someone behind me.
I quickly tried to fling it away, but it didn't work. I knew if I thought of the worst, it would happen. Suddenly the thought hit my head, "Is someone behind me?"
A face appeared behind me in the mirror. I checked and it wasn't there. I began to freak out. I didn't want to be lucid anymore. The mirror grew larger and my reflection walked towards me. It was getting larger. It then hit me, I would wake myself up somehow. I thought quickly, closed my eyes, and screamed as loud as I possibly could. The scream was the loudest thing I have ever heard. It almost hurt my ears even though it wasn't a real sound. I felt the pain.

I then woke up in my bed.

Sorta freaked me out about lucid dreaming. And overcoming this fear isn't simply, getting over it. Its a phobia. Its almost impossible to cure. Oh well, the lucid dreaming will go on I guess...

Mirrors are used excessively in scary movies, it's almost a cliché now. Girl closes bathroom mirror -shit there's a monster/ghost/manic behind her!- I know what you mean, just try and keep your cool.

Thats the funny thing too. I was afraid of mirrors when I was a kid. Before I ever watched horror movies that involved them. What I can't deny is that the horror movies have made my fear much, much worse.
And that keeping your cool thing is much easier said than done.
Oh well, I guess I will give it a go!

I always found mirrors to be kind of creepy. Sometimes I open the bathroom medicine cabinet so that I don't have to look at the mirror when I am brushing my teeth. Mirrors in dreams tend to be creepy anyway. And I don't even watch those horror movies.

I think the thing to keep in mind is that dream exploration is like any other type of exploration. It is not free from danger, at least psychologically. If we are going to do much exploration, we have to learn to face our fears.
