Lucid #125: He Had It Coming

I'm working with Wife, Mom, and Dad on a project where we're trying to restore a 30-foot replica of the Great Pyramid. The pyramid's sitting right on the edge of a neighborhood street where a house would normally be. We work on the interior for a while but it feels stuffy in there, so Wife and I go outside to do some work on the exterior.

It's nice outside, so Wife and I stand there for a bit enjoying the sun and the cool breeze. We're standing on something that looks like a driveway and about fifteen feet to our left is an elegant wooden side table with Wife's purse sitting on it. As we're standing there, a pair of tall, brutish-looking teenage boys approaches us. One starts rifling through Wife's purse and the other surrounds us from the other side. I'm angry and fearful, running through our "fight or flight" options when
    I realize that it's all a dream.

The guy who had been looking through Wife's purse is gone now. But when I turn back, the other kid has Wife by the forearm and she's cowering in pain. I'm overcome with a killing rage, the kind of anger you (hopefully) only feel in dreams. I'm aware that the thug is just a DC, but I want to stop him and I want to hurt him.

I hurry toward him, shouting a bunch of angry threats (including lots of profanity), and kick him squarely in the balls. The strike is perfect -- bone of the lower shin right into the "target".

As I deliver the kick, I'm amazed to see that I'm wearing white high-top sneakers like I did back in middle school. The combination of noticing this weird detail and the satisfaction of hitting the hated DC softens my anger a little.

Rather than double over, the DC stands rigidly straight, his feet lifting a few inches off of the ground and coming back down. His body is completely stiff and his face is frozen statue-like in agony. I get a hold of my temper enough to realize that if I keep fighting with him I might turn him into a real opponent. I really just want him gone from my dream scene. I force-push him high into the air and his paralyzed body flies toward a distant set of hills, quickly fading from sight.

When I look back at Wife, she's standing nearby, unhurt but nervously looking around. The place feels unsafe and I want to leave. There's no way that I can leave her behind after what happened, though, so I scoop her up in my arms. "We're going to the Colosseum," I tell her, and try to start flying. I can get about 3 feet off of the ground but after that I feel like I can't move both of us. Even though she's pretty tiny IWL, her weight feels "real" while my dream body feels almost totally weightless. It seems to be getting in the way of flying.

"Am I too heavy?" she asks. I show remarkably good dream judgment by ignoring this question. I try flying a few more times, each time with the same result. I know that I should come up with some creative solution to this but it's not coming to me. I think about throwing her over my shoulder or imagining her floating like a balloon but before I can do any of this,
    the dream ends.

It's a wonder the emotion didn't wake you - the classic 'fight or flight' response!
It reminds me a bit like that lucid I had where there was an intruder in the house. Luckily I realised it was a dream!

Ha ha, that's the one where you announced that you were from "The Lucid Police"! That was hilarious. Interesting to compare and contrast my response with yours. There's quite a cleverness gap there!

Heh, good move by choosing to not answer her question.
I've never tried carrying anything or anyone whilst flying in a lucid dream, so I find it interesting that attempting to fly when carrying a DC inhibited you. The brain does some odd things. "Flying by yourself without wings or anything? Sure! That makes sense! Flying with another person? Oh no, that's illogical. Of course you can't do that!"
Do you have trouble flying in lucid dreams normally? I want to try this for myself now in my next lucid dream.

Thanks! Dream logic is funny indeed You never know which schema you might get hung up on. No, I typically don't have unrecoverable flight trouble anymore, although I'll get the occasional glitchy moment where I'm stuck or whatever and have to get myself un-psyched out. I've actually carried Wife once before in a dream a long time ago, although I was just Hulk jumping back then. (This was very early on.)

I've also flown with my oldest son a number of times, but always on my back.

If I had to guess, it was probably down to how real the weight of her body felt. That probably activated some mental "rule" that told me, "Oh, if you're going to fly, you're going to have to lift this entire person." (Never mind that I'm much larger than she is and have no problem getting into the air!)

Let me know how your "carry a DC" goal goes! With the right mental prep, I know you'll be able to do it just fine. I don't expect to run into this problem again. (Hopefully next dream won't make me eat my words. )

Yeah, that was the one! I must read it before going to bed one of the nights.

Oh, and don't get me started on Morgan Freeman!

Ha, this started out so peacefully, it's very interesting the mood changed so fast like that. Were B6 or mucuna invoved by any chance?

All right, I'm actually very skeptical about this whole thing. So you're telling us it was just a coincidence - building up a model of the Great Pyramid, which is invoved in TOTY, then fighting a DC as if you were in the Colosseum? You just can't fool anyone pretending this was a random event!

I really just want him gone from my dream scene. I force-push him high into the air and his paralyzed body flies toward a distant set of hills, quickly fading from sight.
That is a very creative way to get rid of irritating people. Must try it myself!

Heh heh, no lucid aids involved! My notes tell me that I woke up a touch late and had some insomnia, but no specific "assistance" here.

I'm like you, I thought the Great Pyramid appearance was pretty funny. After obsessively planning the Colosseum, Africa TotY pops in my lap. I don't know what I was thinking not just trying to turn it into the real Pyramid. That was a missed opportunity! Guess I got too focused on bugging out of there.

I'm glad you liked the force-push! I was pleased with how well it worked, too. Kinda surprised actually. But what's nice is that it's a combination of viscerally satisfying, kinda-sorta brutal, and totally gets rid of the problem.

Yes, I think it's very cool up to the point where I want to try it out on some unsuspecting DCs. Imagine if you could master this skill and be able to easily do it, jedi-style. Man, I've got to watch SW again for some ideas! DCs beware!

Actually, didn't you use some kind of force-push in your very first entry as well? The force is strong with this one!

Heh... yeah, it was similar! I ripped the island out of my kitchen with the force/magical powers/whatever. It was the kind of thing I figured people could do in dreams, so of course it worked, even for a first timer. I was very lucky that I had an open-minded view. I was so excited that there wasn't any time for doubt. A good lesson in there, I think!
