    #187 - Around 5:45AM - DILD

I went for a weak WILD attempt after getting up with my son for a bit and got a DILD.

I am at what appears to be the house my sister and her husband first lived in. I am horribly late for work and think about calling in. Floyd offers to pay me $80-$90 to work the day for him.

I look outside and see Kindle with the baby. Then Jared, Tim and Brenda. Jared is saying hi to everyone but totally ignores me. I feel hurt and confused. I am shocked they traveled so far with an infant.

We all go inside and I walk way from everyone in thought. It occurs to me that this might be a dream so I do a nose plug. It's not a clean blow through but I just know I'm dreaming anyway.

I turn around to talk to everyone but the living room is dark and empty. It looks like grandma's old mobile home now and when I turn back around I see the back door and step out.

The sky is dark and starry. I remember my goal to travel to a distant star by zoom flying. I pick one and focus. The star gets large and bright with the usual strange distortions but I never seem to leave the ground. Not wanting to force anything I look for the moon instead. When I look all around, I only see a uniform blanket of stars in the sky. Must be a new moon tonight. I become dizzy and fall into darkness.

I don't want to wake up so I visualize the back door until I see it again. I think about simple shapes until I see it before me open and swung outwards. Wanting to stabilize, I reach out to feel the texture and mass of it. I note how vivid it is and begin to steady myself...

Unfortunately that's all I can remember.

Nice, man, glad you're hitting those lucids! How big did the star get as you imagined it closer and closer? It could be that you are unused to the idea of a "larger" star being any closer, unlike other objects which are generally drawing closer the bigger they get. Hard to find anybody that's gotten close enough to a star to tell you what it's like. You'd pretty much have to ask other LDers.

I liked the way that you instinctively pulled off a void-save at the end, found a simple geometric shape, and had the presence of mind to turn it into the back door like that. That seems like a great kind of thing to pre-plan for Task of the Month / Task of the Year type scenarios too.

Cool dream! You know, we have the challenge task to fly to the moon for the competition and I was thinking of enlarging the moon to make the flight easier, since flying without a close enough point of reference is kind of hard. That is if I were to remember the task.

It is nice to hear that you are going for something similar, and I look forward to reading your experiences with this. Visiting distant stars and planets is a fascinating idea and one can never get enough of the sights.

Also nice job on summoning the door, as CL pointed out!

I guess it was a little smaller than a full moon. After thinking about it I guess I was getting there it just was not happening the way I wanted. I think it's going to be hard to make the transition from a ball of light to planets orbiting around a sun. I may need to rethink this. Should work for the moon though.

I think it's all about visualization. It's gradually getting easier but I'm a little worried how I just can't remember the end of this. I remember I got to the Colosseum once this way. I should really work on developing that.

Thanks Nyx. I had no idea this was a task. I've just been trying to think of my own fun things to do lately and remembered this was an old goal of mine. I've got to get this travel thing down!

That's a good point. Then again, scale is so malleable in dreams that I know it's got to be possible. Remember your very old dream where you flew into space, approached Saturn, and then the planet became a child's toy? I bet scale can just as easily flow back in the other direction, you know what I mean?

I think we're all a little bit terrified of forgetting a lucid dream (or that we HAVE forgotten a ton of them.) I don't know of a general solution to this apart from the "wake yourself up" one, but man... I just cannot bear to leave a lucid dream on purpose once it's going.

I need to review that dream! I know what you mean about leaving a dream on purpose yet I do it a lot and later wish I hadn't.
