I'm up to four lucid dreams now, but they all share one unfortunate aspect: they haven't lasted.

My first one, I attempted spinning upon discovery that I was dreaming. However, I found myself too focused on the spinning motion, and lost the dream. In my second, I tried doing a hand rub instead, but could not even move my hands close enough to each other to touch (they felt like they were paralyzed), and had a repeat of this in my third dream. In my most recent one, I tried spinning again on the advice to "survey the entire area around you" rather than focus on the spinning motion. This worked for a few moments, but as soon as I tried to do anything else the dream just collapsed.

How can I transition from these control-prolonging methods into actual dream control itself?
