To take Sivason's already sound advice one more step:

Rather than summon that ring, why not just find it right on your finger in the first place? Again, even if it's not there at first, take Sivason's advice and tell yourself -- just know -- that it is there. Do that and it will be there, right on your finger; even if it isn't (if that makes any sense). That way you waste no precious flying time looking for a token that you were always wearing, had you formed your expectations from "knowledge," rather than "hope."

And by the same token, if you go into your dream "knowing" you can fly, or rather harboring no doubt whatsoever that you can fly, you'll be able to do so without summoning anything, or rifling through drawers looking for Hal Jordon's lost jewelry.
