      Dream Guide questions

Something I've really been wanting to look into is finding my dream guide. Before, I can do this I do have a few questions though.
Firstly, what exactly can dream guides do for you? Are they simply characters that occur frequently in your dream and speak to you? Do they try to help you in your attempts to LD?
Secondly, how can you find them? I know there's probably thousands of ways to meet them. I'm pretty sure you can just call for them too but just in case there's any specific way, I'd like to ask this question.
Thirdly, can you control how a dream guide manifests itself? If I'm correct, dream guides usually manifest themselves in a way relevant and appropriate for you. For example, say that you were a huge fan of The Legend of Zelda. Your dream guide would probably appear as Link, the main character of LoZ. (as far as I know...) Correct me if I'm wrong there. Anyways, can you control how they manifest themselves? Also, do they always manifest themselves at all? I have a feeling it might be possible that sometimes they might appear as simply a voice, an invisible figure. Or even just a guiding aura to help you and converse subtly with you along the way.
Lastly, do they have a static form they manifest themselves in? This is indeed another question about the manifestation of dream guides but do they always appear in the same form.
V: Who? Who is but the form following the function of what, and what I am is a man in a mask.
Evey: Well I can see that...
V: Of course you can. I'm not questioning your powers of observation. I'm simply remarking upon the paradox of asking a masked man who he is.

From what I know of dream guides, they seem to appear when you are lucid or appear and make you lucid. I have not one yet, but I think I have found someone who might be.

I believe that dream guides are just DCs that you think are Dream Guides and thus become your Dream Guide (Self fulfilling prophecy ). Many people have a lot of views about how they are supernatural entities, your main sub-conscious, you, or even other oneironauts. I think that they could be, but it doesn't really matter to me. Haha.

Normally they find you, but I have heard of people calling out to them.

      This belongs in Beyond Dreaming.

BrandonBoss is right. People have all different opinions on what Dream guides are. I like to think of them as ways to find answers to things that you just cant seem to figure out using your conscious mind. Whether they are your subconscious or just DCs, they are a good thing to have around when you want advice, even if the advice they give is sometimes complete nonsense

Most of the DC are just actors playing their role in your dream. They have no conscience of their own. Some of the DC can show some inteligence and independent thinking. You may be able to call for a DG to show up as your favorite caracter, or change one DC to look and act like one of your characters. But you can't expect any insight from any of these.

Sometimes a DC may show up, who acts as an independent entity and shows inteligence beyond that of what you think you have. This could be another dreamer or some entity inhabiting the dream world, or manifestation of your mind. They may be able to answer questions and perhaps act as a DG.

But if you are looking for a true dream guide, as in spiritual guide, a protector, a guardian, a teacher, don't expect him to show up as a cartoon character. I'm not saying he can't, but if you summon a video game character, he may asume you are not serious in your quest for self-discovery, you just want to play and have fun. The relationship would be something like between jedi master and a padawan. I don't think a padawan would even dream of altering his masters appearance or anything else, simply out of respect and because he is a student and master is a teacher.

A true DG may observe you form a distance, gage your progress and perhaps show himself to you when he deems you worthy of being taught something more than how to fly and other fun stuff, or maybe when you express the desire to be taught while you meditate and such.

All this is just the way I would expect it to happen (an maybe this will be my disadvantage). I have no experience with DG, so don't take me absolutely seriously.

Good point about accepting my DG. I have had a recurring old man in my LDs, and have thought about summoning a younger person that I might relate to more, so this has stopped me from talking to him. In my mind old man should mean more wise (not always the case). So someone older then me in my mind should be my DG. Thank you!

I still agree with my previous thought about DJs are probably just something we subconsciously make up though.

Talk to the old guy and ask what he represents.
