      Bad placebo effect

Hey, it's been a while since i posted on DV. I've been taking looks every so often, but thats about it. Anyway, this isn't really about sleep, but more so about health, if you wanna call it that. If you forcibly try to think positively, even if you're in a negative state, will it change anything?

For example, if i think i'm not going to enjoy something, and i tell myself i'll love it, even though deep down i feel like i know i won't, will it make any change?
      If not, what will?

The above was only an example. I have let in a lot of negative beliefs and bad placebo affects, to make myself believe that i can't lucid dream. I know, pretty stupid and careless of me to let that happen, but i don't care at this point. I want to get rid of these bad beliefs/placebo affects, because i want to be able to lucid dream again. I haven't lucid dreampt for over a year now.

Hey fellow Canadian! And also fellow British Columbian!

You are the only member from BC Canada I have met on Dream Views.

But anyways, belief is very important when it comes to lucid dreaming.

One of the reasons I am a master lucid dreamer (having 4-5 lucid dreams a night) is because I have such a great level of belief in my capabilities.

This doesn't mean arrogance. It is okay, even healthy, to have a strong self esteem.

I know. What im trying to do is regain that kind of confidence (in my capabilities for lucid dreaming). Without the use of Isochronics, Binaurals, Subliminal Messages, etc. (Im against that kinda stuff lately.)

I've read and heard multiple times that when you are depressed, you should tell yourself every night before you fall asleep that you are loved and that you are happy, even if you don't believe it. I tried to find a source for that to no avail...but I swear I've heard it .

On the other hand, if you've ever been in a lucid nightmare, you know that telling yourself that the scary thing doesn't exist isn't going to help at all...the fear is still there in the back of your head, which is why lucid nightmares are difficult to escape.

I'm personally of the conviction that if you tell yourself something long enough, your subconscious will eventually believe it. Though it probably helps leaps and bounds if you are already mostly convinced or have confidence in yourself.
