Do you have the book Exploring the world OF Lucid Dreaming? It is by Stephen Laberge. It goes into great detail about this.
Spinning is usually associated with spinning a new dream scene!
If you are loosing clarity this will most likely compound that effect.
So the proper way to spin is with your eyes closed. But not in order to maintain lucidity.
The two are totally mixed together and not correct.

Keep in mind this is what U have experience, read and scene from others. But in all actuality you can make your own rules

I use dream spinning as a last resort. It hasn't really changed the scenery for me, but it usually will help me stay lucid if the rubbing of the hands isn't working.

I usually dream spin with my eyes closed. Everytime I've used dream spinning I got dizzy though. In my dream I fall down and when I get up I fall down again. Then I usually start laughing and that wakes me up. That's why I use dream spinning as a last resort.

You want to know people's opinions on dream spinning...yet the original post "didn't say anything whatsoever about dream spinning"? Hmmm. And you are telling others they are off topic? Wow.

Well thats very exciting to see that we've resorted to name calling now. That makes me feel really great about posting topics in the future. I fail to see how you can be so utterly confused about the post that was off topic.

      1) Press your tongue against the roof of your mouth;

      ..and/or:

      2) In the dream, lie down in the same position as your sleeping body, close your eyes, and fall asleep again; the result of this will be that you rewake in the same dream but with much stronger lucidity. You can do it over-and-over again.

Both of these techniques have been in the public domain for at least 10 years.[/b]
This is the post that I had commented on being off topic.

Here is the original post made by me. Note the question at the end.

      <!--QuoteBegin-Hobus

Last night I had a two lucid dreams. The first one was great! The second was also very cool and was a bit longer. In the second one after the first 3/4 of the dream I had a false awakening. So I climbed out of bed and went to the stair case. Things started to get a bit fuzzy and unclear so I remembered reading about the \"spin\" techinque all of the time here on the forums. I tried spinning and for some reason my eyes were open! It made a weird sensation because I spun really fast. I felt a dizziness and then woke up for real.

I'm no english major but I am pretty sure the only question in here is the one at the very end about spinning with your eyes open or closed. So to me its pretty easy to see how Oneiro's post was off topic in my opinion. And so thanks for wasting my time unraveling the mess you helped create.

For all those who actually posted on spinning with your eyes open or closed, thank you very much. The advice was great. I had an LD last night and I tried spinning with my eyes open again. It had the same effect of making me dizzy and loosing it. I'll keep practicing.

Uh yes. Calm down all, it doesn't really matter if it was off-topic or not, right? The point has been raised and bickering about.

Further discussion as to whether it's off topic is in itself, off topic
Not to mention a waste of typing.

Um, excuse me...but WHY THE HELL was my post deleted???

I was calm. I apologized to Hobus for any confusion I caused, congratulated him on his LD...and stated my view that I prefer spinning with my eyes closed. Sooooo...again...why was my post DELETED!!!????

well, heres how i see it: (by the way i only spin to go to a different place) when you spin, a lot of the things you see blur and begin to fade. this forces your brain to recreate the situation, and that usually increases vividness, but in my case, i think of a different place that i want to go to while i spin, and thats usually where i reappear.

Yep. Alot of times people spin because their dream is starting to either fade to darkness or is becoming blurry. When you spin (I typically spin with my eyes closed) it should just sort of transport you into another dreamscape. I've found that you have to be careful though cause I've often spun myself awake. People use dream spinning as a means to extend lucidity, but I only use it as a last resort if I'm stuck in a really crappy LD. For example, if you have a WILD and find yourself standing in your room and it's black as night. I will probably spin to try and find a more interesting dreamscape. Just put your arms out and spin around in circles just like you used to do when you were little.

I know that state. It's when you're half way awake and half way dreaming. I often have this, generally after or before an LD.

I think "spinning" is vastly overrated, and the results (if this Forum's posts are anything to go by) are very arbitrary.

I personally use a type of half-twisting movement to wake myself up if I'm in a dodgy dream scenario, which is known as "The Rolling Pass" à la Castaneda, but I never use any variations of "spinning" for anything else. Like I wrote, IMO the results are too arbitrary..

..and to return to topic, I do the "Rolling Pass" with my eyes open. It works a treat.
