I sort of maintain my politeness in dreams, which sucked because I wasted my dream trying to fix the camera settings and stuff. -.-' I recommend WILDs, but if you can remember your goal well in a simple DILD, then go for it. I'd also refrain from talking to non-relevant DCs in your storyline, as they'll hinder the progress in your dream.
I was going to mention this, but I see you already have. Often, MANY unexpected things do happen in LD's. SO many random things happen, especially if there are DC's around. So, acheiving this ability to go through a plot may be easier in a place with minimal to no DC's. Though, I think it would be VERY VERY difficult to go by a set plot in your dreams. I usually don't even remember to do simple goals, so you'd have to be able to be VERY aware, and be VERY lucid to be able to do this! You need your full mind for this to work.
