      Question about reality checks

Don't you have to already become lucid to consciously do a reality check anyway?

Yes, reality checks rarely ever induce lucidity. They're used more as a confirmation that you're dreaming.
After all, if you do a reality check and you're not conscious, you'll just ignore the results.
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

No, not at all. It is just people tend to do RCs out of habit and then it becomes a "Ok, just to make sure"
Also, you can be concious of many things, and still not be lucid, so it just comes down to how you do your RCs. An example would be, lets say you are in a pokemon world and fighting a grass thingy, you make logic choices like "Will fight with a fire-kind pokemon" and are concious of how that will affect the battle/etc, but not of the fact it is a dream, so you can do RCs conciously without being lucid, and then gain lucidity from them.

Reality Checks seem to induce lucidty in me everytime I do one
I've gotten into the habit of doing reality checks all the time
      Opening a door,closing a door,Finish Conversation,Look at a clock,Stare at something to long etc..
I do reality checks all day IRL I'll usually just look at my hand though and people dont notice im doing it and it dramaictly helps me with Gaining Lucidity

Awesome I have a friend who has been experimenting with lucidity for a while and he gave me alot of insight to how RC help too. i think they are good but at the same time i kinda feel weirdd putting things into my sub conscious that cant be taken out. I think maybe just always working to know yourselfbetter and gain lucidity through other methods like meditation and liberation of ones selfand reality etc helps naturally induce lucidity and therefore natural reality checks within dreams.

I just RC when I notice my dreamsigns, two big ones are getting into/starting a car [a simple daily task which is a very common DS], and the other is incredibly strong emotion, where it effects the way I physically feel, like anxiety or fear [like walking through the woods back to the house at night after hearing a ghost story around a campfire. ahhhh REALITY CHECK okay no ghosts good]. Every time I've become lucid [three times in the last month] I've attained lucidity through the nose-plug/hand check RC in succession. I think you are right though, there does have to be some level of lucidity/ awareness of your surroundings in order to do this. I will also note that during the time that I had these three lucid dreams, I would practice meditation or visualization daily, during any part of the day, for a time frame of three weeks. I had some new elements in my life over the last two, and got stressed and strayed from my practice and voila - no lucids!

So I think you are right, RC's don't make you lucid, but like others say, they've been for me foolproof. Also, the only time I've ever RC'd in a dream is when I've had an LD, attempted and passed/failed one in a dream ever.

They can make you lucid, in my experience - you do RCs to build habit, and the idea is that you will do it habitually in your dream, (i.e., that you will do it w/o having to be consciously aware). The thing that blows you into lucidity is when the RC turns up weird...I have never LD'd w/o and RC. But everybody is different I suppose.

Unless you're aware enough to begin with in a dream, and you do an RC, you'll ignore it.
