      My recall is sketchy

So every morning when I initially wake up I do not remember my dreams. I will sit in my bed, just thinking about whatever may have happened the night before. Nothing. Then I'll go about my daily business, so on and whatever. Then I'll see something that will make me remember my dreams. For instance, this morning I couldn't remember anything until I got on my phone and saw a picture of an alligator. I remembered everything but if I didn't get this particular image/idea then I wouldn't be able to remember many dreams. This has happened multiple times. How do I fix this? Thanks

      Hi!

Recall is never absolutely consistent but if you feel like it's below average, there are some things your might consider:

      - Are you going to bed at more or less the same time? Regular sleep schedule without extreme deviations facilitates dream recall.
      - Are you getting enough sleep? If you are occasionally sleep deprived that may affect recall by making you sleep deeper in order to make up for the lost sleep.
      - Consider having a bed time snack. Fruits like bananas, apples or blueberries are really good. Or maybe a mini-sandwich or so.
      - Getting up too quickly. We always have to rush somewhere, but it is much better to try to be as still as possible when waking up. Do not think about your day, but concentrate on what just happened in the dream. Hold on to anything you can - even a vague feeling, an image, an impression and focus on it. Try to work backpacks if some dream details are missing.
      - Autosuggestion: convince yourself that your recall is getting better. Write it down in your dream journal.

Then I'll go about my daily business, so on and whatever. Then I'll see something that will make me remember my dreams. For instance, this morning I couldn't remember anything until I got on my phone and saw a picture of an alligator.
This is kind of cool. It has happened to me as well. Actually, I once forgot an entire ld as it was too early in the night. Then later in the day, I was looking at the birds flying and remembered it, or rather parts of it. It think it happens to everyone.

What helps me is if I wake up 4 hours after I go to sleep, get up for 20 minutes then go back to sleep. Increases my dream recall so much
