      Forgetting

Can Lucid dreams be forgotten like normal dreams? Because if your aware shouldn't it be harder to forget?

I pondered that one too. Well, for starters, if your dreaming about being lucid then that could be forgotten just as easily as any dream. I think that if you are very lucid in the dream and can remember anything from real life (probably only one thing) than you shouldn't be able to forget it.

So why is it needed to have good dream recall?

Because you have to understand your subconcious mind (one) (two) you have to be able to pick up those less lucid dreams and write them down (three) becuase you should know your dream signs.

exactly. lucid dreams can be just as easily forgotten as regular dreams. Remember during the night that you have several REM periods, where dreaming is most vivid. After one REM period the brain moves through the other stages (http://www.dreamviews.com/sleepstages.html) and then enters the next REM period where new dreams start. Thus, you have many dreams throughout the night, and regardless of how vivid the first few have been, you're likely to forget them if you don't wake up right after them.

even when you are consious in dream, your brain isisnt working the way it normaly does during waking hours, long term memory is kind of sitting idle...it works... but its not at teh same level, the stuff rememberd while asleep in long term will stay with you in your subconsious, getting memories from the sub consious is tough though...

Short term works though, thats why its essential to keep a journal and write everything down, or use a voice recorder as soon as you wake up. Later on you can go over what you wrote or said and commit it to normal memory...

But in my experience there are some dreams where reality and dream blurred, I couldent tell teh difference... it was TOO real, in that case, I did not have to write or record anything... The memories were to real and strong for me to forget.

So there you have it... me contradicting myself again... *sigh*

Forgettign is one of the most annoying things in dreams. for example I had this EXTREEMY vivid dream yesterday (not lucid) but when I woke up I forgot it completely for at least 10 minutes.. If I wasent reminded by somthing then I could have very well forgotten it completely. It is very imparative that you increase your recall for more non lucid dreams with more detail and more lucid dreams more often.

Yep. It's tricky to hold back the rush of thoughts that come at us upon waking in order to attempt to remember what we were dreaming.

      Well

Well, Have you ever forgotten events in Waking like.......Of course.
My personal opinion is that many people who don't understand the concept of Lucid dreaming, pass off Lucid dreaming as unimportant memories of waking life. therefore it has no bearing on them.

      Just my thoughts

It's one of the worst things I've encountered, it is also somewhat relaxing to dream of nothing sometimes, too.

Melatonin works wonders. It is in your body waiting for us to go through stages to naturally encourage us to fall asleep. The stress of everyday modern life throws off a person's focus, they worry, they don't sleep right, they don't dream well (I am one of them, despite lucidity, hehe). I attribute most of my no dream nights to stress, lots of stimulennts, and times of occaisional dramatic life events. I throw my body out of whack, I sleep irregular hours, and it seems to really effect ho vivid my dreams are.

I won't lie, my dreams are best when I sleep all day long

      goodnight
