In no particular order:

1) Talib Kweli
2) Mos Def
3) Black Thought
4) Eminem
5) Toss-up between KRS-1 and Pharoahe Monch

Immortal Technique almost made the list, but after seeing his piss-poor performance against Iron Solomon (who is my favorite freestyle artist, at the moment) in a battle, I'm kind of re-evaluating my stance on him. Apathy and Esoteric are badass, too, though, as is Atmosphere.

Also: In b4 some twat, who has never even heard of the above artists, comes in and says how much "rap sucks!!11!"

Thanks. I've come to find out that there really is no middle ground, here. Those people here who are into rap (at least those that I have spoken to) have pretty respectable tastes, but there aren't very many. Most others don't have any other knowledge of rap music, outside of the crap they play on the radio.

Well, sure. But there is a difference between hearing that from someone who understands the difference between rap and hip-hop, and someone who doesn't. My statement was aimed toward the latter.

I love BTNH! They're really good, but none of their albums have lived up to "E. Eternal 1999." That was a classic, but none of their work since then has been that good, in my opinion.

Have you ever heard Bizzy Bone's "Way 2 Strong?" There's one part that's ridiculous, where he says over 50 words (pretty much a whole verse) in under 7 seconds. It's absolutely nuts and I'd recommend you give it a listen. I think it's something like 1:29-1:36.

Mhm, Way 2 Strong's easily one of Bizzy's best solos. As for their albums, they may not be like E99 Eternal but Art of War was just as good (bar the collabos) and some of the solos were as well. eg Bizzy's Heaven'z Movie (including the cuts), Krayzie's TM99 (minus a few collaborations), and Flesh's T.H.U.G.S (although it might not grow on you until you give it a good couple listens). They've released gems here and their over the years but you're right about their recent releases not being as complete as E99.

Give a listen to their Faces of Death album if you haven't already (recorded before they were signed by Eazy E), it doesn't sound like anything else they've recorded but it's definitely worth a listen. "Hell Sent" and "Sons of Assassins" are the best songs on it imo.
