      lol yeah sorry.

Yeah I noticed that hendrix his guitar is 'inverted' at the top. My Squire has an invertion too.. Like from the 0th fret to the thing you turn to tune: The E is the longest instead of the 'e' with normal guitars.

      It looks hawt.

Hendrix learned to play guitar upside down, on a right handed
guitar his father got for him, without changing the strings.

Alice in chains had some rust stuff that is way out there. I would love to learn some of their stuff but it is too advanced for me at this point.

Yngwie = good guitar player. But jesus such a fat fuck lol And his music is really neo-classical like. You have to love it. If you do, it's great.

cool, I love playing guitar! some stats about me-
      playing everyday for 6 years
have a godin (pronounced 'gadAN', yeah it's pretentious)
      getting a sweet guitar, www.ericchristman.com
first song I learned was the entertainer
last one (not forever last) was also the entertainer, just a guitar mag's version

satch and vinnie moore are the most articulate yet subtle players.
      Hendrix is God.

How about a jam? If I posted a [link to a] backing track, would anyone want to solo over it and post the result?

Howetzer, you got killer chops. I read some of the haters on that link, damn. Was that all one shot?

      Sober.

Btw, if speed is your guys' thing, here's one that puts even Yngwie and Petrucci to shame... it'd be a stretch to call this "music," though. His name is Francesco Fareri, he's a relatively unknown guitarist from Rome who's only been playing for just over 10 years.
      http://www.francescofareri.com/fareri_shred.mpg

And here's a video made by a truly gifted and brilliant young guitarist who was inspired by Francesco's playing:

About the dude playing @ 9200 beat / minute. LOLOLOL XD that's funny.

About the dude playing really fast: Speed isn't everything. In alot of cases speed actually sucks. I like blues to ( B.B. King ) . The right notes > fast notes.

Some dude mentionned jamming... I love improvising ^___^ Just say what key I and I jam like there is no tomorrow : )

      Anyone remember Randy Rhodes ?
How 'bout his replacement, Zack Wilde ?

Not a big Whitesnake fan anymore but John Sykes tore it up on the
" WhiteSnake " album. Very energetic and melodic.

Daron Malakian ( System of a Down ), Stephen Carpenter ( Deftones )
both use a simple tuning, Drop d, and basic structures to create dramatic
songs that are easy to learn and fun to play.

ok I have a 35 year old guitar that my stepdad 'gave' me (I stole it and he gave up trying to reclaim it, but he hasn't touched it in 30 years, so...) Anyway, I got new strings for it and it sounds good now, so I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and learn to play it

last year I learned guitarron and ukulele, so guitar shouldn't be THAT much harder, right?

but I HAVE to try, it's the one instrument I never learned that I would kill to be able to play, so when I can't do those fucking fret chords, I'll come crying here for help

      Well, I've been playin since.....

...pretty much this picture was taken.

Oldest memory with guitar is pickin out songs from An Evening with John Denver-- on 8-track!! (you kiddies may have to google "8 track" )

Taught myself to play over the years by listening to shit like Rick Springfield, Journey and other 80's rock that was out at the time. Then got into groups which offered more complexity in arrangements such as Genesis and Yes. Most recently I've rediscovered Colin Hay's solo works (singer from Men at Work) -- awesome, awesome stuff.

Now I pretty much stick mostly to my own arrangements. Every now and then I may pick out a current popular tune every now and then if it "strikes my fancy" ..... 'that sound gay?

Okay , Yngwie may be one mean sob and the Father of shred , but Rusty Cooley is the God of Shred , he shreds so hard my ears burn just listening to it . Check it out .http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6...&q=rusty+cooley
He eats Yngwie , MAB , Farerie and Petrucci for breakfast and still wants more .

All that shredding is fun and all. But it isn't that pretty. Sounds like most of the time they are just following patterns (like keys) and just move them up and down.

Still they can play fast, yeah ^___^
But fast isn't what makes a guitarist go(o)d!

I'm a guitar novice, and haven't played in years, ever since I was forced to sell my humble lil Peavey (sp) Raptor

It was an impulse buy and I knew nothing about playing, before I got it, but had always wanted one. So after I got it, I learned to read tablature (sp) a few chords, and a few by-ear songs. Uhm...so far I can play "Outshined" by Sound Garden, "Machine Head" by Bush, That song by the Toadies that goes "Do you wanna be, My Angel?" but I forget the name of it. I can play "More Human than Human" by White Zombie, the Secret Agent Man hook from Ace Ventura, the theme song to the old skool cartoon "King Arthur an the Knights of Justice," and a couple of other tunes that I'm a little too blazed to remember at the moment.

But anyway, I'm still a guitar n00b, and don't have too much input to share, other than it's definitely one of (if not my Most) favorite instrutments.

I do plan on getting another one, though. So I'm not done learning.

Wasn't forgetting Lee ( and I like to nitpick, too ) , I was under the impression from
Ozzy interviews that Wilde was choosen as R.R. replacement. Remember Lee

Ok everyone seems to associate thrashing good guitar playing with rocker guitarists.... however there are quite a few very skilled and talented artists who perform outside of this scene and therefore become a bit underated - I'll mention three which I feel worthy of at least mentioning: Brian Setzer (formerly of Stray Cats, now big band), Pat Metheney (jazz), Prince (yup, the artist formerly known as- his presence and theatrics seem to overshadow his musical skills at times, but if you were to listen to his guitar work you might find yourself impressed).

I don't play guitar as such, i play bass, but i am hoping to get a guitar eventually, don't know what sort, probably just some crappy one to start off with. I have a Schecter Stilleto Elite 5 Bass by the way. Oh yeah and as for what guitarists i like, there's quite a few. Of course i like Dimebag, Joe Satriani, Hendrix, and all that lot but i mostly listen to stuff that the majority of you wouldn't class as music
Still if any of you are interested in checking one of the bands i like out, try this http://www.necrophagist.com/ the guitars, bass, and drums are all excellent. Listen to the song 'Stabwound'.
