If this is a premise to say that movies are to be perfect re-enactments of history, here are problems with your argument:

1 - Any physical depictions of persons will be false as you are required to hire actors to act out the historic figures. This immediately makes it impossible to ever have a physically accurate re-enactment.

2 - Any re-representation of the verbal aspects of history will never be verbatim or hold the same emphasis or context as they were originally expressed. This also makes it impossible to verbally re-enact any history completely accurately.

3 - The rhetoric of this complaint can be deconstructed as well. (This is more sophomoric and smart-alikey but.. so are you becomingagodo). If it is recorded onto video, it is technically history. Considering every movie is merely the recording of a present moment, this means every movie is actually history or 'historic'.

4 - Anyone familiar with "the phone game" will know that dissention and manipulation of historic events is inevitable throughout time. Considering 300 is based off of "Histories" by Herodotus, it is inevitable that there will be some context lost in translation. Furthermore, Herodotus obviously did not originally write the Histories in English (or, most likely whatever native language Frank Miller has). Therefore, it is impossible to have a completely historic movie.

5 (and possibly most importantly) - If you accept that the movies are attempting to only mimic history and thusly, they should do their best that they are merely representations - then your argument is completely non sequitor as you accepted for the basis for your argument that it is only an imitation!

Anyways, i&#39;m so excited about this movie. At least i know i won&#39;t be disappointed visually.

I liked Sin City, but I just don&#39;t know if I can get excited about 300. It just seems like TOOOOOOOO much for me. I am probably going to catch it on DVD.

I&#39;m really looking forward to this movie... the visual feel is incredible and gritty color usage gives is that old feel to it.

I agree. I&#39;ll bet a Navy SEAL could have killed those barbarians in hand-to-hand combat. With a gun, he could kill all 300 of them by himself

trust me&#33; go see the ****ing film. if your having any doubts, it&#39;s way better than sin city. the visuals are top notch and the violence = awesome. great acting too.

BTW, anyone who has seen it. You know that fat guy that looks like he has swords for arms? What&#39;s up with him?

This movie was badass.

First (and not really a spoiler): the fat guy with the swords for arms is an executioner. He basically amounts to "why have a guy with an axe do the beheading for you, when you can have a cool fat-guy with his arms chopped off and swords shoved into the nubs?" With the other types of creatures that you&#39;ll see throughout the movie, he fits right in, though.

Going further, do not expect this movie to be a masterpiece of eloquent dialogue, or a fluid, beautifully-stitched and seamlessly-linear novel (in the realm of Braveheart or Gladiator). The Spartans are straight up, bred-from-adolesence(sp), warriors and don&#39;t go around sounding Shakesperian (but if anyone actually pays attention, they can tell the difference between the Spartans&#39; dialogue, and those people who don&#39;t "just fight.")

The battles, scenery, intensity and overall "power" of the movie, though, are top-notch. Gerard Butler plays one HELL of a King and military leader. There is a lot to be said about the way the Spartans work as a unit and their tactics are impressive, all the way through the end of the movie.

Again, if you are looking for a Braveheart-esque feature of soft, sophisticated, gorgeously-woven and compelling dialogue, you&#39;ll probably come away from this feeling a little disappointed. But, see it for what it is (a comic book in movie form, with it&#39;s emphasis on high-octane action and first-class imagery), and this movie is the shit.

Only one word can truely describe it...

EPIC

I must see this film.

Come on Tomorrow&#33; I plan on going to see the movie tomorrow night with 3 or 4 of my friends, can&#39;t wait&#33; I have been wanting to see it for months.
