Gross movies just don't do it for me and haven't for a while. The choreography of battlescenes and syncronized explosions is one thing, but the use of graphic detail in violence sometimes comes accross as... well, gimmicky. This movie was advertised as being "ground breaking" and set to "change the future of filmaking" -- I hope that's not all based on the "shock value" of the violence.

Na, its not around "shock violence". Its really about 300 brave souls that totally decimate the oppisition while looking amazing and heroic n' stuff. It looks like its a comic book come to life. Same funding principles. Your first sentence seems to hit the nail right on the head in my opinion.

Favorite scenes guys? Mine was the one where the first volley of arrows comes and they're hiding under their shields all laughing like maniacs.

I love, right before the climax, where Leonidas was standing in front of the "Dome of Shields" that the other men were under.

Also, when Leonidas was kicking ass, during the first wave, in slow-mo, and he ends his assualt in a passive stance, after smashing a guy with his shield. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. All of the fights were pretty fuckin tight, though. Heh.

And I loved the way that Xerxes'(sp?) men fall down on their knees, in front of his throne, so he could use them as steps.

I've seen the movie twice in theaters so far and I freaking love it. I love when they Persian yells "Spartans! Lay down your weapons!" and then the spear hits him and they yell back "Persians! Come and get them!" but the whole entire movie was so awesome.

Hell yes. That was such a great scene. I loved all the fighting scenes, and I really loved the scene at the beginning with the messenger. This! Is! SPARTA!

I just watched it. It was great!

I loved the fighting scenes in it, and how the Spartans piled up corpses and made a wall of them, then pushed it over the Immortals.

Seen it 3 times now, frickin awesome. I've heard a lot of people saying how it's just manly men being manly for one and a half hours, but I think they're missing the point. Strangely I heard frank miller wasnt too happy about the result for some reason - I guess a look into the comic is the only real way to find out why. Bad interpretation perhaps? Awesome, awesome movie either way.

Yeah, it contained some great lines.

"I trust that "scratch" hasn't made you useless."

"Hardly, my lord, it's just an eye. The gods saw fit to grace me with a spare."

      "It does look like rain."

And then shortly after that, the bad-arse music kicks in and all of the 300 start freakin' out in the rain. A very good part, indeed.

Entertaining film but I find it hard to see how gratuitous violence makes an awesome film....the whole film was basically one big fight scene after all.

The script was crap and cheesy, the acting poor, the plot flimsy...um, the choreography, special effects and costumes etc., the overall style, were top class though, gotta love the John Woo-style slo-mo effects.

It reminded me a LOT of the ps2 game Spartan: Total Warrior, for obvious reasons, cool to see it in live action I guess.

I suppose it wasn't pretending to be more than this and I didn't realise it was based on a comic when I saw it which would explain a lot.

In other words...I loved it too.

There's no way its racist, the Persians were the bad guys in the film, we are supposed to hate the bad guys?! Storm troopers wear white costumes

Heh, good catch - and Han Solo wore black in episode IV. Lando was black, he ended up savin' the whitties!! LOL

Dudes, I thought I posted this earlier, but I must have somehow not -- every freakin frame in 300 looked like an old masterpiece of ART! Reminded me of Delacroix, Cravaggio, David...

You check out the color and lighting, then compare it to various works from that time period and the resemblance is uncanny.

Exactly. And on that note, notice that the villains in the movie weren't all of one color. Many of them were slave/warriors from other nations, and had the appropriate skin-tones. And horses? What color was the fleet of horses that carried the guy that killed the Captain's boy?
      All white.

So: I went to see it yesterday...

      AND I LOVED IT!!!!!

I went together with my dad... Who still doesn't know what to think of it (he didn't like the "story" very much O_o)
But he still thought it was beautifully made... and what a perfect opinion....

It was BEAUTIFULLY MADE!!!!! I love it how they made it so stylised... The fighting looked artistic in stead of realistic, and i like it that way. I love how they, at times, made it look a bit "comic book-y" (slow motion shots, and the shots in which they used slow motion between shots of fast/normal speed)

I loved the dialogue... What dialogue there was anyway... And indeed: every word is worth hearing.

I hate the people who say that this film is racist (etc., etc.)... And it's so stupid I won't dirty my words at it...

      Overall score: 8.5/10

Madness??? THIS IS A WORK OF ART!!!! *kicks haters into some large pit*

Favorite scene:-The beginning (with the wolf)
-The beginning (with the Persian emissary)
      -The end (SPOILER!!!!!!!!&# 33;!!!!!!!!!&# 33; Death of big-L scene)

Favorite quote: ...oh man, there are so much... but for the absolute favorites:
      -"Spartans! Lay down your weapons!"
*guy is impaled on thrown spear*
      "Persians! Come and get them!"

      -"THIS IS SPARTA!!!" (of course)

-and the quote with the eye... I love the way he says that: "it's just an eye..."

-and the one where they are busy impaling not-yet-dead soldiers, and Xerxes approaches for an audience with Leonidas... and he's like "No need to be uncivilised, no?" to which the other responds: "No sir, not at all" while impaling a soldier on his spear...

OH MAN! I soooo wanna see this again...

(Yes, Fanboy, and proud of it&#33

I saw it just now... and for all the hype about it I wasnt that impressed. You can only get so far with lots and lots of fighting. It was pretty cool in places, but not a great film overall.

You want good films? See Sunshine.
