      Very sad ending, though.

True, I had to watch it a few times to fully follow/understand what was happening.

I saw it very recently, and fell in love with it. Can't get enough of how good it was.

I'm surprised there isn't already a thread about Donnie Darko here since it is sorta older. There might be, I dunno I'm too lazy to search. But yeah, this movie is pretty awesome.

I love that film! It's well amazing, although can someone explain the ending a bit more to me in a private message or something? I don't fully understand it myself, like Jmp. Here's what I think it is, in white text.

I think that Frank was telling the truth about it being the end of the world when he met Donnie. And at the time, Donnie said "It's time" and if I'm not gettiing confused with another part, he rides towards a mountain and watches black clouds hovering. The plain his family are in blows up and part of the plane goes inside a 'Wormhole' and goes back in time and crushes Donnie, along with his house.

Yeah, I don't know why the spoiler tags where not showing.

Great movie! I love This part:

Donnie: "How come you wear that stupid rabbit suit?"

Bunny: "How come you wear that stupid man suit?"

      So creepy.

Perfect choice of actor for Donnie. I loved the little bits that made you stop and think (Cellar Door, for example, which I still have yet to fathom at all ).

The director (or creator?) offers his own interpretation, I believe, of the film, but has said that other interpretations are very welcome. Have yet to decide finally on my own.

Yes, this was a well written film; one of the better ones I have seen.

It's not just the ending that needs explaining, it's the whole movie. It's all based on the (fictional) book by Roberta Sparrows (the crazy lady), the Philosophy of Time Travel. It's about a tangent universe, some sort of spin-off universe that has to be destroyed within 28 days or it will colapse and take the primary universe down with it. It involves weird terms like the Living Receiver, the Manipulated Dead and the Artifact and is actually stranger than the movie itself

If you want to know more you can always watch the director's cut, buy the dvd and see the commentary, or you could just go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donnie_darko

That being said, this is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of movies .

There's a director's cut? Wow, I saw that free in a newspaper once but I didn't know it was that different. So does it involve more clarity then or something?

Oneironaut you should make it go backwords at the end, so it's like a loop.

I haven't seen it yet, but supposedly there's pages from the book in between scenes, so this might explain the story a bit. Some scenes are longer or changed. You can also see the future in Donnie's eyes and some of the songs are switched around (This last one scares me a bit; a Donnie Darko that doesn't start with Killing Moon? The horror!).

It might be interesting to watch and the pages could possibly clear some things up, but your best bet to understand the story is the internet.

I watched it on shrooms made me rethink the way I was looking at life. The Movie is one of the best I have ever seen especially with all of the underlying meanings that are inbedded within.
