Yes! That is one of my top five favorite movies, but I did not list it because I thought it was pretty big. Melvin Douglas won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role in it. Shirley McClaine was great in it too, as of course Peter Sellers was. My dad took me and my brother to see it at the movie theater in 1979, when I was in the second grade. I had no idea what was going on in it then, but my father told me to watch it again when I am an adult because I would love it then. So I watched it again a few months after I finished college, and it has been on of my top favorites ever since.

Yeah - I almost didn't list "Being There" because it wasn't exactly an arcane movie, but I don't think it was a blockbuster either. It was a truly excellent film though.

Another one came to mind, but I lost it while responding to that! It'll come back.

Ah! While I'm waiting for that one, anybody seen the ORIGINAL "Bedazzled", with Dudley Moore and Peter Cook?

      **EDIT**

Ah yes... how about "The Station Agent"! That's the one I was trying to remember.

I grew up on that movie!... An edited version, but still.

I grew up on a number of "edited versions" (The Three Amigos, The Last Starfighter, BTiLC, etc.). It was odd when I went back and watched the real versions later in life.

The Assassination of Richard Nixon is one of my favourite films..... and hardly anyone has heard of it, and ever fewer actually like it. Most peple I have showed it to thought it was terrible or boring.

      Another all-time favorite: "Babette's Feast"

That one's pretty widely circulated, I think, though certainly not a blockbuster. You're right, though, it's a masterpiece.

I also love Chinese wuxia-type films... Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Curse of the Golden Flower, et cetera... I can't get enough of these films, hehe.

      Haha. Baseketball was great.

I'd also agree with Run Lola Run.

      Hmm...

The Last Starfighter. [Edit: Nice, Ame. I just scrolled up to see what other movies people have picked and saw that you called this one. Awesome.]

Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz and Four Eyed Monsters

Four Eyed Monsters was a fantastic movie I saw previewed on myspace one day and I watched the entire movie on their page. About two people that meet and go through their entire relationship without saying two words to each other. They write everything. It's really a great movie.

      Speaking of the number 4...

      Four Rooms.

      And, speaking of Tarantino...

      From Dusk 'til Dawn.

      And, with no relation...

I'll agree with Pan's Labyrinth and add The Labyrinth (1986).

      Also, Harry and the Hendersons.

And damnit, there was one I had in my head about 20 seconds ago, and now I can't remember what it was. I'll think of it...

[Edit: Oh yeah! The Long Kiss Goodnight with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.]

Haha! No, seriously, I'd say The Cube - link is to the full movie (and as it is terribly obscure, you won't feel bad for watching it on Google).

I'll agree with The Last Starfighter, but Harry and the Hendersons? Really?

That movie The Cube was worth watching. It's one of the last things Jim Henson did before he started the Muppets.

      How about the Muppet Movie?

Which one? I really liked Muppet Treasure Island. Just something fun and endearing about it.

I watched that movie and found it really quite prescient--to think all those years ago they could anticipate the situation of a man trapped in the Off Topic forums at DV.
