Thread: Let's talk about Final Fantasy games.

I definately loved 7 the most of the ones I've played.

8 ranks next.

I've played 6 and while the story was good, for some reason I wasn't as attached to the characters and plot as I was 7 or 8

I've also played 1, and found that NOWHERE near as good as the later Final Fantasies. "Restore the Crystals to Light!" C'mon...seriously? Just seems rather lame now than it probably did then.

Ok so who here noticed that the story line seemed to get better as the graphics got better, but then, amazingly, it reached a point where it just went downhill?

Now I will admit, number 10 was, imo, a pretty damn good game, when I played it as a child, however, unlike number 8, I would not want to play it again, and again, and again. I have played number 8 like four million times, I could probably recite the plot line to you by heart.

My favorite was number 9.
I really liked thier AMV's and the story/plot.
I also loved the charcters...well just the first few (vivi, garnet, and zidane,)
I didn't really like the others very much.

Aye, I say the turning point was X-2. X was good, but after that one the entire series just went downhill. XII is nothing compared to the golden age of VII-IX. Sure, the story might be good, but that's not the only thing that matters. Besides wonderful storylines (VIII <3), the older games also featured better gameplay. Frankly, I can't say that about XII. And I couldn't care less about the graphics.

It might just be the sentimental values VII-X carry for me, though.

Bah, I disagree completely.

A lot of people complain that XII didn't have "character development", but I think the real reason for disliking the game is due to not being focus on a romance between 2 main characters and the lack of filler dialogue. (X had much of both)

I don't know, XII what was the plot? My brother died in war, that thing he signed up to be in. Now I am angry and want to get back at people. Oops I saved the kingdoms.

The plot line wasn't captivating at all, I can't remember it AT ALL.

And also their wasn't alot of extra playability, it was a very finish the game oriented game.

FF8 kind of grated on me a little bit... it was too slow for my liking, had no real hook for me and also the whole combat and skills system really got on my nerves. However, I have yet to finish it - only just finished the space section.

X I actually really liked - both gameplay and storyline. X-2 doesn't even diserve to be mentioned. I've only played a bit of 12 and so far I don't like the story line at all but the gameplay is pretty good. 13 looks like it's going back to it's FF7 rootes so it may be pretty interesting.

I liked, in no particular order, 1+2, 3DS, 7, 10.

Just got IV.

Didn't much like XII, and haven't really gotten into VIII.

I'm not saying that VII wasn't awswome, I'm just saying that Cloud is a serious bitch... He is probably the worst person you ever paly as a main in a Final Fantasy game. He is just an awful human being...

The story didn't revolve just around Van.

I think the game provided a lot of playtime, with the hunts and all. I had played 90 hours when I reached the final boss.

I'm not saying it wasn't good or that I didn't like it. I just liked VII, VIII and XII better.

I think I liked X better than VII.

I don't know why so many people cherish VII, like it is some holy grail of final fantasy games.

And XII? The one with Vaan? Blaargh that one was horrible.

X-2, fun, but stupid.

I was secretly hoping yuna, riku (or whatever spelling), and Pain would get together in a lesbian love triangle at the end, didn't happen though.

Now that you mention it, I never finished X-2. Rikku was awesome, I always chose her dressphere based on the sex appeal.

I don't think there's anything inherently superior about VII. I just personally liked the atmosphere and feeling of the game.

Even then I wouldn't it say I like it much more than the others.

Yeah that was one thing that bummed me out at first when I started playing X-2. I was like, wait you mean riku isn't a sexy theif anymores?

But But, you can't do that to me!

Ugh that whole they are each whatever you want them to be thing just made me wanna puke.

P.S. the best class you could be was the alchamist one.

Heh, was drunk when I came home.

The more I play them, the more I like the earlier ones.

FFX is still my favorite, though, and probably always will be. (not the one I think is best overall, just my favorite.)

So, is anyone else starting to think XIII might not be as good as it sounds? (I'm hoping the time is them making it better rather than it geting outdated)

I will never know I don't own a 360 or a ps3, don't intend on owning one either.

All great games.

I've only played VII, VIII and X/X-2, and I think VII is the best. In fact, I'm playing it on my PC right now in the background using the combination of extremely powerful computers and software emulation! I can even use my 360's controller which is functionally almost identical to a PS2 controller! And I love that materia system.


I never liked VIII and X was so-so. The voice acting was pretty bad and the filler phrase "you know" cropped up almost all the time and in contexts where it sounds stupid. And then there's the laughing scene ...

If you ignore the poor voice acting, the game is alright.
