Well the problem most have with it is that he just isn't the type to play the role. It is a very dark role with very disturbing moments that Will Smith just hasn't ever done in his career and that the only way for them to do this movie would be to make it with all happy endings which just isn't the essence of Oldboy. If they did do it though the right way I'm sure it would be amazing because Smith is one of my favorite actors but I just don't see that happening.

Understandable. Kind of reminds me of Jim Carey's movie "The Number 23" in which he played a psychotic killer. There were no/zero/none/negative funny moments in that movie. It was 100% drama/suspense. VERY different from anything he'd ever done before. I'll have to watch Oldboy though.

Was The Number 23 good? i only know Jim Carey being funny so i never saw the movie, because i know the whole thing i would be waiting for him to break outa part and do something funny.

It was okay at best. If you're looking for another funny movie orchestrated by Jim Carey...you're in for a sad disappointment. It's genre is classified as suspense/drama, not comedy. There's not one joke or laugh in the movie. I kid you not. It's about murder and Jim Carey going psycho and killing this guy etc.

I thought Jim Carey was fantastic in that movie. I think it really does prove that he can be serious. Good if you want to see him in a totally different setting.

I think Will Smith is very mediocre.

The list of actors who are more realistic and who play more challenging roles is huge.

      what about...

      seymour hoffman?

or better yet...the 12 year old kids from "Let The Right One In" ?!?! What about "Monster's Ball"?

now...thats phenomenal if you've ever seen a movie.

but the movie was horrible, and his alternative character was horrible.

I hope you've seen Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind...he was amazing in that movie. I cried watching that movie, by far his best movie yet.

Yes, that movie was amazing! That seemed like one of his most comfortable roles because he could be funny and serious all together.

Eternal Sunshine was just a great movie all together.

Such an awkward and moving plot, too.
