As the producer, I KNEW he would make it all cute, even if there were some creepy elements to it. I'm just disappointed that it's in this kind of animation, but hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm just glad I read the book before even the trailer came out, cause I have a feeling it would have completely changed my perception of the story.
YES, I agree with everything you've said!

ok I saw the movie. I still think they should have made the animation a little less cute-looking, but other than that, it was excellent! The whole thing reminded me of a lucid dream. I'd totally see it again.

I've seen commercials for this movie. I have a disdain for anything with Tim Burton's name tacked to it. I don't know why. I just hate anything that is associated with his name. I will not be watching this movie until it is sooo late in my life that I'm almost positive no one will ask me to talk with them about it. "Sorry, I haven't seen it, please don't spoil it by talking with me about it." I could lie and still say that...but eh.

Yes, but it's not Tim Burton's creation. It's Neil Gaiman's, an extremely talented writer.

Saw it today, very cool, I think I'll have to read the book again.

That may be true, but he has the opposite of the golden touch imo.
I liked nightmare before christmas...but that was about it.
I can't help that his name ruins a movie for me, it just does. I'm sure the book is fantastic, maybe I'll read that someday, but this movie is not on my list of planned movie watching.

I'm not trying to make you see the movie or anything, but I just realised . . . Tim Burton has fuck all to do with Coraline. It's directed by Henry Selick, who did work with Burton on The Nightmare Before Christmas. It's just that when they mention "the director of the Nightmare Before Christmas", people associate the movie with Tim Burton.

Anyway, haven't seen it yet. Want to.

Wow, I just saw this over the weekend, and was hugely impressed. The previews do not do it justice, at all. It was an excellent movie. I liked it even more than the book.

It inspired a creepy lucid, which I will post tonight in my DJ.

Actually, Burton's the producer. Producer has a lot to do with the movie, as does the director.

No. No he isn't. Laika is (from wiki):
Coraline is a 2009 animated stop-motion 3-D horror fantasy film based on Neil Gaiman's novella of the same name. It was produced by LAIKA and distributed by Focus Features.
And there is no mention of Burton in the wiki entry for Laika.

Interesting, it seems that I have associated this with Tim Burton because other people have said it and because of the statement in the advertisements of "from the guy who brought you nightmare before christmas."

I always thought it was strange that people still attribute Nightmare Before Christmas so squarely to Tim Burton. It made sense when it first came out, but after seeing more of Henry Selick's work, his heavy hand in it became pretty obvious.

Saw it yesterday and it is definately worth seeing. A little kid cried when it got to the scary parts and I laughed. And we sat infront of really loud annoying 50 year olds. The book was a little eerie-er and darker but it was still very enjoyable.

Saw this movie last night, and was impressed by it. It had a captivating feeling to it, I was really drawn into their world, it was interesting and vivid. I would definitely see this again.

I'm thinking of buying this book from amazon. I'm 15. Is this age to old to read this book?

It'll be an easy read but you'll definitely still enjoy it.

And borrow it from a library... save some money!

The movie was okay, but the changes weren't very good. And no, it's not just "they changed it, now it sucks." They did change a lot of it for the worse. Some characters were just too different, and Wybie completely ruins one of the main reasons why the book was so creepy.

Not worth telling anyone not to watch it, but if you're borderline between watching it and something else (or not going to the theater at all), don't bother.
