      what are you reading?

eh. I know it's been done before. but not recently. I'd like to know what everyone is currently reading...anything good? recommendations?

      I'm reading:

The Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality by Dalai Lama

The Cases That Haunt Us by John Douglas, Mark Olshaker

Weird Science by (don't remember, will check and edit)

Our Dreaming Mind by Robert Van De Castle

I'm supposed to be reading (instead of wasting time on here )

USGBC New Construction & Major Renovation Reference Guide V. 2.2

Having to read a 450 page reference guide cover to cover is just torture.

I just got done reading a stupid book called House of Stairs...

It was pretty good at first, but it just sucked near the end.

daseet? no one else is reading anything but us? :o

I figured there'd be lots of smart ready-people here. nvm I guess

btw Weird Science is by Michael White, it's great. can't edit for some dumb rule in place that seems unnecessary...

anyway the Dalai Lama book is alright, but doesn't seem to have a point :x

Cases is alright, not too far into it, and I've read Our Dreaming Mind before, it's a really thick book, covers like...everything, pretty interesting, I do recommend it (I'd love to own it! :o)

Still on Wrath of Ezra, childrens fantasy, fourth bopok in the series.
I just got a bunch of classics from a book store, Ender's game, Ender's shadow, the LoTR series, as well as The Hobbit, and then some. I'll read them eventually..

I'm rereading Bone: Ghost Circles, excellent series. One of the best in modern comics.

As a book-book I'm reading Slaughterhouse V by Vonnegut. Fiction about the firebombing of Dresden (German city after the war was over), but mostly other stuff. Very good.

I'm rereading the Great and Secret Show, by Clive Barker.

I couldn't help but relate to the character Jaffe, who finds hints of some great secret art while sorting through dead letters at his job in the post office, pretty much the equivalent to the internet in some regards. Uncovering hints that there is something greater out there.

Although his work always gives me that feeling, like he's tying to express something he can't quite grasp or fully understand, yet it still comes through. Some great mystery he can only provide glimpses of in his work. I think he alludes to that in this book, especially when that Jaffe character looks for someone to quest for that knowledge with and finds him in Maine, which I think is meant to be Stephen King. In King's Dark Tower books, he pretty much says that outright.

HAHAHAHA!!! I knew someone would say something sooner or later. so many people diss them just because it's "cool" to hate ICP. I find their silly, extreme, morbid lyrics quite humorous, some even thought-provoking. and I like alot of the music. sounds good to me, and I don't give "two shits and a fuck" if I'm "uncool" for it, you superfluous frot. :)

Cusp: sounds interesting. might check that out.

HH: I said it in a previous post...it's alright, I am only a few chapters in, it just doesn't seem to have a point. (so far at least.) but then maybe I'm just too dumb to see it. :x

I just finished the book "When the West came to Ladahk" (translated title), a very good read about how the western society can ruin a well functioning culture and way of living.

Now on to my next book: Shabono

I don't think it's "cool" to hate ICP as much as it is common sense and a desire to hear good music.

I never once said you were uncool though. You've got your music taste and I've got mine. Just please don't be a hardcore Juggalo/lette. I've only had bad experiences with those people.

Also, I'm a unnecessarily excessive form of gay sex? Sweet.

I finished Dune Messiah and started War and Peace. Dune Messiah I was not that thrilled with for about 3/4 of the way through, but the end gave it a real thematic completeness I wasn't expecting, and I'll probably pick up book #3 at some point.

I'm not sure why it got into my head, "I'm going to read War and Peace," but it's amazing so far, just the way Tolstoy gives you a clear picture of a character in the space of a paragraph and conveys all the complexity of their relationships in the Russian court with total reality. The characterization is so good it's almost unnecessary for anything to happen.

I'm also reading The Incal, a comic series by Alejandro Jodorowsky, of which I was reminded by Elis D.'s recommendation in another thread.

Grod, I need to get my hands on some more Bone. I've just read a couple of the trade pbacks. I do a woods retreat with some friends every year down in Hocking Hills, which was the inspiration for the landscape.

I FINALLY finished "Darkest Evening of the Year"- Dean Koontz

And I'm still reading Body Language by Julius Fast.
I would like to start reading "People of the Weeping Eye" by Michael and Kathleen Gear but just haven't gotten to it yet...
I also have a "Terminator" book that's supposed to be a prelude to the up-coming movie, but I haven't been able to get into it yet either.

      Blah...

Rereading The Wheel of Time series, currently on book 10 Crossroads of Twilight.

Looking to pick up Ender in Exile.

When I'm sitting on the can I'm reading Napalm and Silly Putty by George Carlin

Zhaylin, How's that Koontz book? I used to read him religiously but haven't read him since his first Frankenstein book.

Rakjavik, I did not like Darkest Evening of the Year. It was okay, but it took me forever to finish because I couldn't really get into it. But, (the ?) Taking, on the other hand was SUPERB. I highly recommend it.

Reading the Count of Monte Cristo right now, very good.

I'm reading The Singularity is Near when I'm finished though, I'm really looking forward to that.
