AVATAR is my new favorite movie.

it was basically Fern Gully on acid.

Already seen it twice in 3D, sunday and this morning... tried to have a related lucid dream ,but so far I failed to have anything looking like pandora (got lucid still).
I plan to go watch it again and again until it works

Did you notice that Na'vis have 4 fingers ? (human Avatars have 5) Pandora = dream world with included RC

If you live within 50 miles of an IMAX 3D theater there is no excuse not to see this movie as it was intended... WHOOOlleee CRAP.

I have been ranting and raving since I saw it at 11:30 am after a 12 hour night shift and a 45 mile drive away. I've turned into a fanboy *sobs*

The sensory overload is insane, only thing I was hopped up on was 5hr energy drinks.

Yes, its a story we have already heard but you know what? Its a damned good telling of the story.

I've known that tree for a very long time, it wasn't on Pandora but it was a World Tree, just the same.

James Cameron has been sitting on this for years, I saw a supplementary book that seems to have this world and the culture of the Nav'i pretty well mapped out, I should have grabbed it.
Watching the movie it did feel like an LD especially the flight sequences, I've never navigated floating islands, usualy just crazy cloud formations, but now hopefully I have the foundation to explore a new place.

So.. 5-10 years? and physical actors are obsolete you think? If you've seen that first final fantasy movie, the spirits within, the kiss scene was so... fake.

Compare it to Jakesully and Neytiri's kiss in Avatar... there was emotion, you felt it, well I did Neytiri and all of the Nav'i for that matter felt real. Ok I'm just gona shut up I'm ranting again...

Just go see Avatar in IMAX 3D... You will not regret it and it will change the way you think of movies.

I'm not sure who's suggesting this makes physical actors obsolete. That makes no sense at all, considering all facial expressions were done by actors. The CGI is just technological makeup.

I just hope they don't use this photo-realistic CG for characters that could regularly be played by human actors. Zombie Christ knows my standard of beauty is already sky high.

This has been a HUGE issue with some of the dissenters on IMDB, though I think it's just as ridiculous as you do. And it's not only the facial expressions. It is full-body motion capture. The characters are basically transposing the actors' performance, in full. Every time someone says "this is just the beginning of the replacement of human actors!!111!!", I have to laugh.

I mean, hell - even when we have nothing but their voice - what would animated greats like The Lion King and Aladdin be, without great talent to do the voice-overs? But this takes it one step further, in that we actually get to see the characters play out the performances the actors give.

Personally, I don't care if I see an actor on the screen, or a 10 ft tall blue alien. As long as whoever is doing the acting does a great job in making their character believable, I'm happy.

Watched it yesterday, now I'm obsessed.
It's by FAR the best movie I've ever seen. I really look forward to explore Pandora in my lucid dreams, though I gotta watch the movie a couple more times so I can "build it up" in my dreams =]

Just saw it a about half an hour ago. Everyone on DV should go see it, if you don't like the storyline just see it for Pandora's sake. Pandora was magnificent. And I had strong attachment to the lead characters, Neytiri *cough*...

Anyway go see it, you will be blown away! I hope I can go to Pandora on my next LD.

Avatars have 4 fingers, Na'vi have 3. A strange thing for me to notice, but I did.

I noticed that the avatars only had four fingers, so I just assumed it was the same for the na'vi. That's kind of funny

Actually, Avatars have 5 fingers, and Na'vi have 4. I wasn't thinking of the thumb.

I have now seen this 4 times.

I would say around the middle row. I sat in about row 3, and trying to focus your eyes gets a bit uncomfortable after a while, with the screen being so close.

Haven't seen it yet, although I can't say the misanthropic "humans are EEEEEVILLLLLL!" storyline is making me particularly giddy to see it.

I am a chain smoker. 30 minutes into a movie and I become so distracted that it's not as enjoyable as it should be.
THIS WAS NOT TRUE FOR THIS MOVIE!!!

The nearest imax is about 3 hours away and they're booked solid for quite awhile. We saw it in our local theater in 2D and it was still absolutely amazing.
It reminded me of Pocahontas meets Halo and World of Warcraft lol (with a little Aargon- sp- thrown in for good measure ). Yeah, the story is typical and I foretold most of the plot before it played out... but even so, I wouldn't change a thing.
The movie was epic without feeling drawn out or forced.

      I HIGHLY recommend this movie.

I still can't see how people come away from the movie with this interpretation.

The movie is not about "humans being evil". There are good humans in the movie. It is about a corporation and its hired military muscle disregarding the humanity of an alien race, and invading them to mine a material that might save a dying Earth. The movie is anti-imperialism - not anti-human.

The main protagonist and his crew are, in fact, human.
