I had a crippling phobia of thunderstorms as a teenager. Still scared of them, but I get a nice adrenaline rush now that I rather enjoy. I'm pretty sure if I lived in the Midwest I would be a storm chaser. |

After seeing the SCARY STUFF thread, i decided to make this thread here. Do you have any phobias? Anyways, I do.... |

I'm scared of spiders and the thought of being in a body of water with another large creature or object. I know it's stupid but it still creeps me out. When I was little I dreamt of swimming in a lake with some sort of sea serpent and I've been afraid ever since. =P |

People that I don't live with seeing me when I'm at home unless they're there to visit me. I turn into a super stealth ninja. I've gone so far as to climb out my window to get away. |

Reading this thread I actually found a phobia that I have had my entire life and never knew. |

Well I could probably come up with a list of hundreds of things I dislike and 'fear' in a sense, like the dentist, sleeping in through an exam, accidentally using the same toothbrush as my brother, etc. but I've always thought the definition of a phobia is a fear that's irrational. By irrational, I mean it can't just be completely explained by fearing some consequence, there's something odd going on in the brain, some 'faulty wiring' that causes you to experience blind fear in response to something when you can't necessarily back up that fear with a good reason. Or maybe the fear evolved for a rational reason, but isn't psychologically caused by that reason. If the definition is just something you fear, I have hundreds, maybe thousands, so does everybody. |

Glad someone is clearing this up. A phobia is more than just a fear of something. It is a deep terror that is all out of proportion to the thing causing the fear. My thunderstorm phobia made it so I had to look out the window every ten minutes and watch the weather channel non-stop even on sunny days. If a storm actually hit I would hyperventilate and cry and lie down on the floor. Not fun at all. |

Oh it's high school all over again. Fun, fun. |

Like a big empty room. And I don't mean everything's identical as far as the eye can see, just up until a certain distance. |

Spiders. Been trying to face my phobia in lucid dreams. Didn't work. |

A phobia (from the Greek: φόβος,phóbos, meaning "fear" or "morbid fear") is an irrational, intense and persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, animals, or people. Wikipedia. |

Spaces which are hard to escape, crowds, sort of heights although i like the adrenaline rush, bugs, people being behind me (so much i taught myself sound tracking and identifying, i recognise peoples footsteps as them) and losing contro of my own body (yes, driking is a no for me even when i get old enough) |
