The whole society needs to be reorganized...Urban Dwellers have to be relocated in Rural Areas....Urban Dwellers have to either transform into full time food producers or they have to stop working in order to save the remaining environment from destructive Urban Work....They can be given food for free in order to save the remaining environment from destructive Urban Work.

Computers are being used today because they are being manufactured by Industrial Society.

Was anyone using computers in Hunter_Gatherer Society / Agrarian Society when they were not being manufactured???

Citizens of Industrial Society need to be told that they are destroying environment and since they are using computers they have to be contacted through a computer.....They cannot be contacted through pigeon mail....Moreover if Industrial Society had not come into existence there would be no need to spread the message about environmental destruction because environment would have been in very good condition.

There are billions of people in this world who are not using computers.....Has that saved the environment???.....It hasn't, because billions of other people are using computers and thousands of other consumer goods and services.

Way to concede your entire case. You say people MUST return to so-called "simple" living - which wasn't so simple given, you know, diseases, injuries, and whatnot - and then follow it up with saying everything you hope for will never happen.

I actually agree with the OP to a point. The general structure is destructive. How to break it, that's a whole another thing. The consumer culture has been created following the industrialization and having the surplus of goods - that was then reacted to with the invention of PR and marketing, making people think they need all this stuff. Of course they don't but by manipulating the minds of general populace to think they are enhancing themselves when they buy useless (or rather extraneous) shit.

The machinery is very strongly rooted, and peoples general ignorance very heavy. Eventually it will have to come down to a collapse, which is probably only way it will ever come down.

Producing consumer goods isn't necessarily an evil in itself. But do we really need all that shit that the humanity is pushing out every year? Simple answer is no.

If anything this consumerism is spreading to more simple societies. I'm sorry but Western culture just has too strong stranglehold over the world. The consumption is on the rise.

But I'm not a one to preach of the world coming to an end. Yes, I think we are living unsustainably, but smartest engineers in the world are working non-stop to reduce energy consumption, to enable growing crops within city limits, and to make more recycling possible. I think if we could combine this with more minimalistic approach to living becoming the norm I think we'd be well handled.

Of course if we go really "deep" we are all in a sinking ship since world will eventually get destroyed anyway - but it would be nice to have the civilization as we know it around a bit longer, no?

I think people attacking the OP for using a computer are completely missing a point. Instead of attacking the person, attack the argument.

As an add-on, we don't have to give up on all consumer goods to actually make life on Earth more sustainable. We just need to stop upgrading to every new freaking gadget every time a new one comes out, and filling our closets with millions of shoes, clothes and shit. We just need to take a more minimalistic approach to life, not give up on our technological advancements.

The West spent its time and energy on "reason" which led to Science, Technology and Industrialization / Material Development....The West has got very little knowledge of Spiritual Development.....Very little concept of peaceful states of mind / peaceful subjective experience.

The Aborigines of Australia would not have started the Industrial Revolution.

Red Indians / Native Americans would not have started the Industrial Revolution.

The Africans are very unlikely to have started the Industrial Revolution.

These cultures were quite happy and content with their Rituals and Spiritual Practices.

In India people had made efforts for Spiritual Development for thousands of years.....They developed methods and techniques for making the mind quiet, tranquil and peaceful......The knowledge of subjective experience led to the fields of yoga, meditation and pranayam [breath control].......Material Development has destroyed the planet, If any kind of development was needed it was Spiritual Development.

Human work should fulfill the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter.....It should not turn into overwork or destructive work.....If extra time is available to people and society after basic needs have been fulfilled it should be used for Spiritual Practices, Art and Culture.

When I look at my posts 8 years ago (didn't post here, but on other forums) it's like written by a completely different person. I don't know how you've managed to sustain such consistency. Note that this is not meant as a personal attack, just a constructive point about how you get yourself across as a sidenote.

Like I said, it's easy to see world is getting ruined. Easy to point out the problem, not so easy to solve it.

That said, this problem wouldn't really be THAT HARD. Quality of life doesn't need to come down pretty much at all. We don't need to live in the forests. A pure non-industrial society is not possible now because Industrialization has increased world population to 7 billion.......World population increased from 1 billion in 1800 to 7 billion in just about 200 years after industrialization.......In the absence of industrialization world population would have been less than 2 billion today.

If we want to save the remaining environment we must minimize the things that are destroying environment.
