it is not over, til it's over.
She said she hasn’t been contacted by U.S. authorities but after she saw the photos, she was the one who called the FBI.

I suspect, out of our three-hundred and thirty million population that quite a few people pay attention to "the rest of the world" and the events in it.

While the effectiveness of foreign aid remains up for debate, the United States recently has continued to pump around $50 billion in aid to other countries each year.

In terms of the absolute value of aid given, the United States is the world's top donor by far.
To see where U.S. aid goes, see this map: ForeignAssistance.gov

US Foreign Aid requested for Armenia for FY 2013: $36.6 Million

State and USAID: U.S. assistance to Armenia supports democratic, economic, and other reforms that are designed to help promote regional stability and supplements diplomatic efforts to peacefully resolve the long-running conflict with Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh and reopen the closed borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey. U.S. assistance is helping Armenia sustain its development into a stable partner, at peace with its neighbors, where democracy, human rights, and the rule of law are respected, where citizens have access to effective health and social services, and where the benefits of sustained economic growth are widely shared. (Source: Congressional Budget Justification FY 2013)

Admittedly foreign aid to Armenia has been declining over the last several years but it's clear that quite a few U.S. people think about the rest of the world.

Here's a list of countries that give aid, their percentages of GNI, and the actual dollar amounts from 2009: List of governments by development aid - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I think the issue isn't that we don't pay attention...the problem is the world is just incredibly big and there's a lot of it to pay attention to, for any citizen of any nation.

News in any country only covers a smattering of local and world events. It'd be very difficult to be aware of it all without actually having a research staff or abundant free-time.

Of course i did not target everybody. and i know U.S helps other countries a lot.
As i live in U.S, i can't ignore the fact that young generation doesn't pay attention. I'm young myself, 17. And i still have a lot to learn.
But i had people come and ask me how did i got out of a communist country (a lot), one girl asked if we ride cows or camels back there. After a lot of questions like that, i assumed that kids are not being told about other parts of the world at all, or very little.
those who know, are usually the ones that are knowledge-hungry, i am like that too, and i always marveled at others cultures and countries. and i feel bad there aree so few teens here interested by that. Most only care about writing dramatic ststuses in facebook...
correct me if i am wrong.

I hate when the general public of the US is criticized for things like not knowing who the Italian president is (any country really, just an example). I can't be bothered to memorize things like that.

Get off it. Most people around the world actually do know what's going on in the world. You can't excuse the intellectual suffocation of United States culture with "I can't be bothered." I live here, too. And frankly it's fucking disgusting how little Americans understand about what's going on in the rest of the world.

Stay indoors request lifted in Boston as search for suspect goes on
Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick says the stay indoors request has been lifted in Boston after an extensive manhunt took place in the city Friday for a suspect in the Boston Marathon attack. However officials asked that people remain vigilent as the search continues.
Police also said they do not have the suspect in custody yet. They said they believe he is still in Massachusetts, however.

Police advise Boston residents to remain in homes
Police have extended a shelter in place order to the entire City of Boston as they search for an outstanding suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing.
Residents are advised to remain in their homes, lock the doors and to not allow anyone other than a properly identified law enforcement officer inside.
Police had previously advised residents in the communities of Watertown, Newtown, Waltham, Belmont, Cambridge and Allston-Brighton to remain in their homes after one of two suspects was killed in a shootout with police early Friday morning and the other escaped.
Police have not yet publically identified either suspect.

Don't worry about that. It's all a matter of what you're exposed to growing up. The same is true everywhere. Some kids grow up to have a worldly view and some do not, and that goes for any country in this world.

I experienced this in a more local sense. When I was in 7th grade I did half a year in California, attending a middle school across the bay from San Francisco. When I was introduced as a Texan the kids asked me where my hat and my accent were, if I rode a horse and if I had an oil-well in my backyard or near my home. I had to tell them I didn't wear a hat, I never developed an accent (living in a big city), I had never ridden a horse (and still haven't), and the nearest active oil wells were 50 miles from the rolling hills of central Texas where I lived.

In their minds they pictured the stockyards of Fort Worth and west Texas plains with oil wells dotting the landscape. Austin (where I live) is so vastly different from that I had to laugh.

I'm not criticizing but at the time you posted this the suspect had been apprehended 10 hours earlier.

      Amazing he was/is alive.

No but Italy is an especially relevant case because Napolitano is a former communist, and his prime minister Berlusconi has been accused of corruption out the ass and received a vote of no confidence. Italy's government has received a lot of international attention over the last few years. Everyone knows what's going on in that country except Americans. It's not completely their fault though, the news media simply ignores international affairs in large part. Mainstream news in the rest of the world does a much thorough job at informing people while America's news media is most similar to North Korea's.

I've seen no confirmed reports of a third suspect at large, and I've been following an absurd amount of sources on Twitter and other places.

People like Lindsay Graham who demand Dzhokhar not be Mirandized are off their rocker. Gov. Patrick has said multiple times there is no imminent threat from new attacks associated with the Tsarnaev brothers. Therefore, no reason to not Mirandize him.

"The reason to care what happens to him is because how he is treated creates precedent for what the US government is empowered to do, including to US citizens on US soil. When you cheer for the erosion of his rights, you're cheering for the erosion of your own." -- Glenn Greenwald

It's not clear if he was shot in the initial shootout when his brother was killed, or if he was shot when the police/FBI were surrounding the boat he was hiding it (Comm. Davis said the police "exchanged fire" with Dzhokhar around that time). There have also been reports of the wound possibly being a botched suicide attempt.

Also, just being reported now: Dzhokhar is awake and is responding to LEO questioning via writing.

Just one? I posted an article on Lindsey Graham's ambition to suspend the Constitution because of what he represents. He is a very high profile Senator, and he is not alone. The Patriot Act and the NDAA are already in effect. Do you see any problems with those? I also mentioned gun control, executive orders, and the fact that we essentially have one political party in power. That is what is happening. The links to the history of the Nazis' rise to power illustrate another time and place that involved these things. It became Nazi Germany. We are losing control of our country. Do you disagree?
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

America definitely isn't what it should be right now and we don't really have any control over what happens, but I don't think it's going to be as bad as the Holocaust. The politicians in the White House aren't trying to kill everyone, they just aren't running the country the way we want.
