Well, one of the major problems with teens is lack of sex education. Our human bodies are designed to have sex at practically anytime. When we hit puberty and later years our bodies litrally scream for sex. If you study what Estress cycles are about, they are the womans monthly heat. During this time their standards for what they seek in a mate drastically change for about a period of 5 days. During this time they don't always use common sense. My best guess is this: a teen girl hooks up with a guy and the first time they have sex he uses a condom. She goes in her head "Oh he seems to know what he is doing therefore i trust him" and since she rationalises him using a condom with other girls, therefore it's ok to not use a condom with him the next time. either that or both parties are extremely drunk, a lot of common sense goes out the window inder the influence.

I agree with everything except the "being in heat" thing. No studies have been able to show any kind of increased sexual activity in women during her time of ovulation. One explanation I've heard for that is that a lot more goes in to sex for humans than hormones... which is true.

Sex education is pretty thorough here, they go in depth (no pun intended) about protection against both STDs and unwanted pregnancy. They don't discourage us at all either (I got standard hepatitis shots when I was about 10 years old, they had no qualms in mentioning that it was mainly to protect us during future sexual activites).

Might be another of those "US" things .

Well maybe not studies done on sexual activity. But i'm positive i heard about a study done in britain. where a select group of women marked on their calendar their cravings.

What do ya mean by "select" group? If you ever get a chance to come across the article or whatever again, let me know.. Good stuff!

Just like to say, that when I went to an American International school for three years, the sex education we had there was incredibly in-depth, and not reliant on scare tactics at all. Our teacher told us about all the sex positions, how lesbians have sex, about sex toys and techniques, and masturbation and all that stuff. Everything, pretty much. We brought in bananas and put condoms on them, and got a pretty positive vibe about the whole issue.

When I returned to my native Scotland, the sex ed consisted of one 40-minute class (as in, just one in the history of your school life) where the nurse said "Don't do anal sex, use lubrication and a condom, and remember, sex isn't fun." Then she put a condom on a dildo. That was it.

I definitely think that information is the key - but it needs to be positive information. Give kids all the information about sex, as well as safe sex, and they'll get the message through this positive reinforcement.

I can't really remember anything from School in terms of Sex-Ed (am I really that old!) But I do know my Mum told us all about it from a young age. I come from a very open family, where sex is as normal conversation as discussing what we did at the weekend and this open environment means I could go to her and talk about anything I needed too etc. So far, none of my brothers or sisters (I have a large family) have had any troubles in that area! We were all well educated at home, and I will do the same with my children because I don't think you can rely on Schooling to do it for you.

I'm thinking sex-ed in the U.S. varies from region to region.
Surrender your flesh. We demand it.
