I listed very common themes that have all been discussed here on these forums. none of those themes are so obscure that you can possibly find a wealth of information on them. all of them relate to the economy!! when I said educate yourself on it. I meant it. the least you can do is google it.

I was general on purpose because I was assuming that these were all things that board members were already knew. in other words, nothing new!

I think what he's saying is for you to not tell people to get "educated" when they don't believe in this conpsiracy theory garbage.

Not every survivalist believes the moon will crash into the sea this summer. I am a "woods survivalist" myself, and don't believe in many of these theories.

I am not saying whether you are right or wrong, but that your argument is invalid.

Well, my argument mostly is that there does not seem to be any more reason to think the world is going to end than there was in 1929. And I hope we can at least agree that what the the opening-post dude is saying is nothing completely certain.

By all means, being in the woods and such is awesome fun. But I doubt there will ever be a reason to start living there, even if the economy crashed completely. Actually, I don't think that even if we had an economical ressesion more extreme than 1929, which is pretty unlikely but not impossible at the moment, that mass-chaos would break out. I also doubt that 'by the middle of next year' there will be a civil war. (As Ranma claims there will be.) And since the American government can't even orchestrate a few simple tasks to help the Katrina victims, something that would have spared them alot of bad PR, I doubt the government has a plan ready to profit of the coming chaos, and start a forth reign or something.

So. Yeah sure something bad could happen. Probably nothing is going to happen soon however. Probably the current economical situation will not cause something extremely horrible however. Probably the way Ranma is describing is based on nothing and pretty far fetched and extremely unlikely to happen. Bull call me next year if I am wrong, if the phones still work during the 'civil war'.

Woo i had a test tommorow, so all the better! And coulden't this wait till FarCry 2 came out? I wanted to play it before the world ends =(. In all seriousness, i highley doubt this will happen, doomsday is preached every few years, so one day they WILL get it right, no time soon i imagine though. Go into the woods and be prepared, i am going to stay and risk my chances though. (I live in a more rural area of Florida, a nice area, but we aren't huge in population so if anything SHOULD happen i should be safe from the buses that the goverment sends)

Indeed most of the claims made in such theories are as a rule very presumptuous and based upon emotions more than reason as is to be expected, but not all are so; that was really my only point, and I see we are in agreement there.

Oh, I'm sorry. It just seems to me you always think the government is planning horrendous things, and is trying to take over the world and run everyone's lives.

I don't think a complete collapse is going to happen (they will drain the Treasury before they resign to that fate), but it is interesting to go to the financial sections of foreign news websites and see the impact that this is having on markets and banks overseas.

They aren't reporting about this much if at all in the US media (probably so they do not create more panic among investors), but the losses and failures are not going to be confined to this week only. If other insurers start going under, though, and cannot be bailed out like AIG there is definitely going to be more panic in the markets everywhere.

As for the survivalist aspect of it all, pretty much the only thing I know how to do is start fires with a magnifying glass.
