Conspiracies That Turned Out To Be True

Seems like more and more people are out of touch with the fact that some conspiracy theories do check out. They dismiss theories that seem out of their scope of reality (usually for the reason of bias, whether acknowledged or not), as "just another conspiracy theory," as if the fact that it is a conspiracy theory means that it's unlikely to be true.

Here are just a few that did check out - some of which actually work to highlight the lengths to which some factions, such as the U.S. Government, will go to promote its agenda; incidents either unknown, or ignored, by many of the most outspoken critics of 'conspiracy theorists.'
(Events listed are for reference only. Many are well-documented, but I can't say I've researched every single one. It's up to you to cross reference them and learn more about them, yourselves.)

According to the definition, 9/11 is a conspiracy, too. Nowadays everyone think it specifically refers to our government. It's jsut a meeting between 2 people or more, held in private.

Thanks for that O, people need to stop blindly trusting government, even the founding fathers told us to not trust government, thats why we have the 2nd amendment

Fluoride is quickly falling out of favor. Hopefully it's not long before they stop putting that crap in our water.

And cell phones are proving to be dangerous as well.

The true conspisary behind all conspisary is that the world is run by a very powerful, very very, very enlightened people. These people are my friends and I. This is the only one I believe, probably more likely to be true than the BS posted in these forums.

Seems like more and more people are out of touch with the fact that some conspiracy theories do check out.
Sorry, but most in the list are known and you can't really call them conspiracy. For example somebody trying to kill GW is not a conspiracy. Most are pretty much known historical facts. So I fail to see the hallmarks of a conspiracy, I don't know like the government trying to cover it up.

For example Guy Fawkes gun powder plot is a pretty poor to call it a conspiracy, since in England we have Guy Fawkes day every year. Pretty big coverup.

Also, the bay of pigs was a military decision that went wrong. Not a conspiracy.

They dismiss theories that seem out of their scope of reality (usually for the reason of bias, whether acknowledged or not), as "just another conspiracy theory," as if the fact that it is a conspiracy theory means that it's unlikely to be true.
The thing is, most of the conspiracy listed on the website are not conspiracy. A good example is Guy Fawkes, where there was no cover up and such.

such as the U.S. Government, will go to promote its agenda; incidents either unknown, or ignored, by many of the most outspoken critics of 'conspiracy theorists.'
Do you know what the Bush doctrine is? Also, this is a ad hom.

An attempt by a group of provincial English Catholic extremists to kill King James I of England, his family, and most of the Protestant aristocracy in one attack by blowing up the Houses of Parliament during the State Opening. Guy Fawkes Day is named after one of the (lesser) conspirators and is celebrated with fireworks. Some modern historians believe the plot may have been either orchestrated or allowed to run its course by the Protestant elite for propaganda value. See also: Popish Plot.
Sorry, I fail to see how this is a conspiracy. I fail to see how most on the list are conspiracies. Saying that, it might be the worse kept conspiracy, I can just think of the people who wanted to cover this up. Oh yeah, lets make a day out of this, since then no one would know about this conspiracy.

The planet Earth exhibits all of these properties and therefore can be considered alive and its own single organism by the scientific definition.
      7. Reproduction: The ability to produce new organisms.
does the planet Earth reproduce, well no unless you count the moon.

I guess, then, what you're having trouble with is the definition of the word "conspiracy."

A conspiracy is an agreement between two parties to commit a harmful (usually illegal) act. If me an Joe-Bob decide that, one day, we are going to kill George Bush, that is a conspiracy.

The fact that the plot was foiled and/or otherwise found out, and a holiday was made after it, in celebration, does not negate the fact that it is a conspiracy.

From what I can tell, your definition of conspiracy has to do with something concerning a government cover-up. This is not always the case, and is actually a part of what I'm actually trying to clear up - that people constantly misuse the term when bashing "conspiracy theorists."

Yes, I know what it is. Why?
Also, that is not an ad hominem. I didn't attack anybody. I stated a fact. The fact is that many of the people that I hear bash "conspiracy theorists" on the logic that "the government just wouldn't do that" have no idea about some of the things the government has done in the past, which shine a little light into why someone would believe it is capable of that type of act. That is not an attack on anyone. It is simply a personal observation, devoid of personal opinion or "attack."

What's not to see? Do you think they sent out flyers saying "We are going to bomb Parliment on Tuesday! Make sure you've all got your lawnchairs and beer kegs out to watch the show!"? No. Whether or not the act was lauded, after the fact, is irrelevant. The plan, itself, is the conspiracy, unless it was broadcasted from the very beginning.

Yes, but that not a conspiracy theory. Nor do you agree with the links definition
This is a list OR INDEX of conspiracies considered proven to have existed or officially covered-up (and or later discovered) with or without newer evidence.
A conspiracy is different to a conspiracy theory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theory

Also, go back to the original post
such as the U.S. Government, will go to promote its agenda; incidents either unknown, or ignored, by many of the most outspoken critics of 'conspiracy theorists.'
If using the word to conspiracy meaning to attempt to kill, or to plan. Then why the hell add a attack on the U.S. Government.

This is not always the case, and is actually a part of what I'm actually trying to clear up - that people constantly misuse the term when bashing "conspiracy theorists."
Next time give a definition of conspiracy theory. Because, in general its to mean a government cover up or a cover up of some sort, for example the moon landing. When you say some conspiry theories turn out to be true, then it seems that you're supporting conspiracies like the moon landing hoax or 9/11 was the U.S. Government.

have no idea about some of the things the government has done in the past, which shine a little light into why someone would believe it is capable of that type of act.
Thats an argument of ignorance. So the government has done bad things, where is the massive cover up.

No. Whether or not the act was lauded, after the fact, is irrelevant. The plan, itself, is the conspiracy, unless it was broadcasted from the very beginning.
Define conspiracy theory first, or don't give a link with a different definition.

Basically, there is a difference between the meaning of conspiracy and conspiracy theory. Please, either rename the thread to some conspiracy are true, or define conspiracy theory to mean conspiracy.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theory

I agree with the statement that some conspiracies are true, however not that statement that some conspiracy theories are true. You're basically getting too different things and mashing them together, which is poor.

I was using that as an example. And it's a valid one, because a large part of the discussion about conspiracy theories are about the U.S. Government. It was an example. Not an attack.

Why do I have to give a definition of conspiracy theory? You are basically taking a small section of what the term means and using it as the overall meaning. A "conspiracy theory" is "a theory that there is a conspiracy going on." You are using it only to define something having to do with aliens or the government. That is a fallacy on your part, not mine.

Please re-read why I put the government's history of doing bad things into it. It should make perfect sense. It doesn't prove anything. I never said it does. It is simply food for thought that many people don't take into consideration. Period.

But..since you asked: Knowing about things like that makes you familiar with incidents such as Operation Northwoods. The "cover-up" is that information such as that is classified for 40 years until nobody gives a damn about it anymore.

I FINALLY get what you're trying to get at.

Look at the name of the first article I posted, wendylove. The title of this thread is the title of that article. If you have a problem with it, take it up with the person who wrote the blog.

Actually, your interpretation is poor. Let me simplify it.

If me an Joe-Bob are talking about killing G.W. Bush. That is a conspiracy.
If Jim is going through my PC and finds an incriminating email that makes him believe that Joe-Bob and I are going to kill Dubya, then he would have a Conspiracy Theory. If Joe-Bob and I really ARE going to kill Dubya, then Jim's Conspiracy Theory is true. I understand you're saying that whenever people say "conspiracy theory," they are talking about it in the Wiki-sense. I'm talking about labelings such as that as "ignorant," when conspiracies (and the theories about them) are sometimes true. Maybe not so often on some topics as others, but they are.

Generally a conspiracy theory is a cover up of some sort, not a plot to kill someone or too cause harm. Thats called an act of terrorism or assination.
Look at the defintion of conspiracy theory
A theory seeking to explain a disputed case or matter as a plot by a secret group or alliance rather than an individual or isolated act.
      http://www.thefreedictionary.com/conspiracy+theory

It is simply food for thought that many people don't take into consideration. Period.
Red herring. Why even mention it when above you say it has nothing to do with the government.

The "cover-up" is that information such as that is classified for 40 years until nobody gives a damn about it anymore.
So are we know talking about conspiracy theories or a conspiracy meaning to kill or harm someone?

The title of this thread is the title of that article.

Hmm. I was looking at the words as individuals. Even the term as you use it is ambiguous, but I see that the most common usage of the two together is in reference to the sub-culture of "the Government did it." Ok. I can concede to that point.

That was because, the way that I was using it, it didn't, necessarily.

I guess the word has changed, like for example Holocaust used to mean people killing people in a act of god.

I guess its the problem with the word itself. For example, when I think of conspiracy I can imagine some crazy kids with too much time and a sense of paranoia.

Heh. Actually, I didn't see the break. When I copied the title, I figured it encompassed the whole article. I didn't see that it was sectioned off

I think all conspiracies theories are just a bunch of paranoid people, that need help. For example, a bunch of people in the forum think that Tesla has made a free energy machine, or that the government is trying to kill us by putting floride in water, which doesn't even make sense and totally contradicts chemistry and physics.

Saying that, reality will never get in the way of conspiracy theorist.
