For the record folks I'm not trying to say Obama won because of his race, I'm merely suggesting that it helped. I believe the major reason lies in the disdain of Bush and the Republicans, which I can't altogether disregard. Neither, though, can it be disregarded that race played at least some factor in this election, even if it wasn't a deciding one.

Personally I think this entire discussion is moot compared to an honest analysis of how he's actually doing as president presently, which I still haven't seen any serious topics on.

Any candidate opposed to a non-white person has an equal chance to be voted entirely just because they are white. You say it may have helped Obama but it may have just as equally hurt him as many voted against him BECAUSE he is black.

This is assuming there is an equal or greater number of persons who are so racist, as it were, that they would not vote for a man on skin color alone.

Inversely, I believe more people voted for him on skin color alone in order to dispel the conception that American whites are racist, which seems far more likely given this country's current drive towards tolerance and equality. The idea that whites are racist has been spread around quite a lot, really, and the election wasn't far in when word was going around that to vote for McCain was to be a racist (I heard plenty of that, trust me).

I get your point though, it's not a bad one either. I just hope in the future should we get more black presidential candidates, the word "race" won't even be brought up.

I say who cares. So what if they voted for him because he was black, or because he seemed like a nice guy. People voted for bush because he seemed like the kind of guy people love to hang out at a bar with. People vote for republicans just because their republicans even if they do not have republican beliefs. People vote for democrats just because their democrats, even if they do not have democrat beliefs. People vote people who came from their own state, because the person is from their state. People vote for people all the time because of the way they look, because they seem nice and stuff.

Out of all the idiotic reasons to vote for someone, race isn't necessary any worse than any of the other idiotic reasons to vote for someone. Most people don't vote for the issues. And most of the people who vote on the issues don't actually know the issues as well as they should.

For all the accusations of racism, KKK groups, and white power supremacists.. is that really hard to believe..? Just watch a Chris Rock stand up act to be reminded of how abundant racism is.

It's the first Black Man ever elected what did you expect? Them to act like it wasn't a big deal?

Their were plenty in this country that voted just against Obama for skin color alone.
This was that cult, and the prisoners said it had always existed and always would exist, hidden in distant wastes and dark places all over the world until the time when the great priest Cthulhu, from his dark house in the mighty city of R'lyeh under the waters, should rise and bring the earth again beneath his sway.

I don't think so. He won because we're in a financial crisis and an illegal war. People were smart enough to realize that continuing the policies that go us into this mess wasn't going to fix it.

Yet the "illegal" war and the tail-chasing economic policies continue.
      You are dreaming right now.
