      Swine flu.

Why are people getting so worked up? Sure it has the potential of a pandemic but what about the regular flu. It kills a a lot of people every year. What about tuberculosis, what about Malaria, what about all the other diseases that kill far more people then this "Swine Influenza". I know it's new, but everyone is focusing on this certain disease instead of the ones that are actually killing millions. To me, it's just another thing to wash my hands for.

The regular flu kills millions each year? Did you make this up?

I agree with you though... It's just a flu, and you have to be pretty weak to die from it.

Didn't "make it up" just over exaggerated it. I found something that says 36000 people died from it in US. When you add those to other countries it gets up there. I changed it, everything is giving me different answers

It's pure luck we've gotten this far without a serious pandemic which wipes out millions - as most people are aware now, this happened in 1918 and killed 50,000,000, and the human population's about 5 times higher now. Epidemiologists know this, so they're always very catious when a new virus emerges and starts spreading quickly. Fortunately swine flu seems pretty inert, touchwood. There's no knowing if that'll stay true though.

      You right Xei.

The Swine flu virus has also been able to infect and kill healty young adults, around the ~ 18 age.

Yes, its just a flu, but a flu is very deadly when you take the whole population into account. It think the fatality rate of the spanish pandemic was average 2.5-5 %, and still ~ 50 million died.

It seems that this swine flu is much less infectious that the spanish flu, the fatality rate is uncertain though, the mystery about the deaths and Mexico while other countries have no deaths from swine flu.

WHO raised the threat to a 4 today, where 6 is pandemic.

I guess we will know in the following days, it will either die out or grow rapidly.

I wondered when someone would create this thread lol
I follow this closely. There have been huge pandemics every century for the last 300 years. We are overdue for a bad one and the officials know it.
Flu pandemics seem to take out 20-40 year olds and skip the elderly and very young for the most part.

Didn't a lot of people die in the first outbreak because the vaccine was bad, and actually caused some diseases?

My hubby sent me a link from the site I'm about to link http://www.naturalnews.com/026141.html
I wonder how reliable the site is or if it's famous for conspiracy theories...
If it's true, it's very scarey.

The link hubby sent was http://www.naturalnews.com/022267.html after he and I spoke about not all states enforcing even basic immunizations.

I would just like to point out that earlier today I came across quite a few places instigating the placement of disinformation about this subject in order to create hysteria and make fox news look like fools.

If you're getting different answers everywhere that could be why.

It's obviously the vicious New World Order testing a new strain of the flu. In a few years the final strain, which will be far more deathly than this one; will be released to sow fear and gain control over the population.

It could barely be more obvious.
      Just kidding.

God, some kids are getting tested in my county, and if they indeed have swine flu then schools getting shut down for one week minimum. I really don't want a week taken off of my summer break.

People are getting worked up because all of the sudden this new flu comes out and kills/infects people around the world. Not very many, but people need to be wary of new infectious disease. Just think: What if a single person came down with a case of smallpox and survived? The fact that somebody must have stolen one of the two remaining samples aside, that would be a huge flippen deal if you ask me seeing as smallpox is highly contagious, frequently deadly and nobody today is vaccinated for it.

      oh oh! I get it!

we need to off the human population, because were so bloody overpopulated....so noble! why don't you start by offing yourself?

or do you think we should only off poorer nations, since they are the ones who will suffer the most from any epidemic?

how easy and pathetic it is for you to condemn the poor to death, while you sit comfortable behind a computer

our population is not the cause of global warming or other disasters to our world. its our way of life.

we are a part of nature, and we are the result of nature. nature is the one that gave us the ability to create the technical world that we live in. it is our human nature, and it is nature, that we have done so

does nature pass judgement on those that destroy??

did it pass judgment on the trees that helped cause a mass extinction when the trees poisoned the herbivores? did it pass judgment on the rain, when the rain didn't come and thousands of miles of rain forest - millions of life forms, were swallowed up by a barren desert?

the idea that nature keeps a happy little balance for all its life forms, is bull crap.Nature shows no compassion, as its life forms are caught in a never ending cycle of consuming each other.

The picture has yet to end, and it's not going to end because of man.

Nature can go on just fine with just the bees and flowers. It needs no mammal or birds, or reptiles, or fish.

Change is the only constant. Even if the change is mass extinction.

But who can say that millions of life forms ceasing to exist is wrong? Can nature pass this judgment? It's only MANKIND that passes judgment

Its only mankind that says mass extinction is wrong!

Just as wishing for half the population (or any part of the population) to die a miserable death is wrong. It's not going to save nature. It's not going to save the Earth. It's not even going to change our lifestyle!

Who do you think that half of the population will be?

Half the world is already dying from something. And it is, and will continue to be, the POORER HALF.

Did the starving in africa stop americans from destroying rain forests so they can gorge on hamburgers?

It doesn't matter what you reduce the population to. Half the world suffering hasn't stopped our greedy way of life. So half the world disappearing, won't stop our greedy way of life. Becuase it will be the most richest people who live!!

Consumerism has made us greedy, fat, and ignorant.

Consumerism, the kind we see today was artificially implented, and very carefully implented with subliminal messages - for the benefit of the few. At the cost of the majority!

We've even been manipulated into believing that this consumerism is the best way of life. Despite the fact that research has shown us, consumermism has made us unhappy! It's making us obiese! Were getting cancers from the artificial crap consumerism creates! It's raping our natural recources, lowering our incomes with its race to the bottom, creating poverty nations away, and keeping the poor...........poor.

Who do you think we'll get a vaccine quicker? Who do you think we'll never be able to get the vaccine?

What makes you so positive that this new virus............was made by the fury of nature against man?

Can't man create viruses? Full knowing our economics will pit the new virus against certain nations?

Seriously, think about what you are suggesting. And think about who it really benefits.......The Few.

What a great way to commit genocide! What a great way to get rid of third world countries, and their stupid nature friendly non-capitalistic way of lives. What a great way, to control them as they beg for the vaccine. No money to give us? That's okay. You got something more valuable. Natural recources. And if you don't give us your natural recources, you can die or slave for us.

Don't think something similiar has never happened???........people wake up!!

The concept of 'population versus scarce recources' was created by the few to benefit the few!!!

To rectify a few misconceptions: yes, this flu does do more damage to those with strong immune systems, actually. It was the case in the 1918 flu too. Basically the flu caused the host's own immune system to turn on themselves, so that's why those with stronger immune systems died.

And no, this really isn't an overreaction. I'm afraid all of you who are saying that have been moddycoddled by modern society and fortuitous circumstances. The threat of extremely devastating viruses is very real and much more important than the rubbish that normally makes the headlines.
Does anyone else see the possibility of an epidemic as a good thing?
You'll have to explain that one.

I was completely unimpressed by bird flu and SARS, but this thing has my radar tingling a bit. The platform for the train was fairly crowded today, and the news-crawl was all about, "Baby dead in Texas" and "More cases in Spain," and there was one old man with a breathing mask; you could tell people were tense.

With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

You start off condemning Elis and Shift and then say it doesn't matter if people die because only people say that that is bad. So what exactly are you trying to say?

IMO, it is good if our population get's wiped out en masse. We clearly aren't gonna change our ways i.e Green living. So as long as we can get the population down, the ones that survive can start living green. So yes I think this flu is a good thing (assuming it's gonna kill heaps of people, which I highly doubt ).
As long as it doesn't kill me
Nah but seriously, we need a massive virus to kill a lot of people very soon or the entire ecosystem is fucked. Because humans kill everything. And I would rather see a world (just say I was the only one alive, or some god watching Earth or something) where there are only non-human animals and plants flourish everywhere. But I'm guessing humans will be here for a long time anyway, so I would like to see us living in a nice, clean, beautiful world. And that just can't be done with our population level. Our natural population size is 500,000. (without technology etc.) I'd be willing to say 1-2 million would be OK.

But anyway, this thing is blown out of proportion. Any regular flu that happens EVERY year, gets to a level higher than this one. It's just that we don't have a drug for this one. That's all. And it doesn't matter.

I agree that I will never take any flu shot. And if I were you I would not take any especially when they are made in a hurry like this one. The last time this happened, all the American politicians voted to vaccinate all Americans. Ron Paul and some other guy I forgot his name, voted not to. This "epidemic" killed 1 person. The vaccine killed 25.

Ron Paul is -- or was -- an ob-gyn doctor. So he should know, right? And he says all this swine flu H2ON9 or whatever scary flu talk is, well, just that, scare talk. Just another facet of an ongoing plot by the federal government to frighten the public and assume more control over the lives of Americans.
In a regular video report to supporters (see below), the 11-term libertarian-like Texas Republican congressman says simply: "The government shouldn't be in the medical business."
He describes a similar outbreak of swine flu way back in 1976 when Democrat Joe Biden was already a senator but Barack Obama was just a teenager. Paul says he was one of two votes against federal involvement in flu-fighting back then.
"There was a panic," he recalls, "and they said it was going to sweep the nation and the government came up with some flu shots and the government was going to inoculate everybody and save the world from this disaster."
According to Paul, one person died from the swine flu outbreak that year while more than 25 died from bad reactions to the flu shots.

Maybe humans destroying the earth is just part of the natural cycle of life. Just a thought.

Actually I'm pretty tired of people talking about how humanity is some sort of disease. Besides, a bunch of humans destroying the planet is far more interesting than bunnies and kangaroos living in harmony with the flowers waiting for the sun to put an eventual end to it all.

There are no non-war activities that could possibly destroy life on this planet. Even with nukes it would be tough. The question is not whether life will continue, but whether humanity will continue. The population does not need to be lowered right now because nobody is dying from overpopulation, only poverty.

I think the swine flu is exciting. I love it when nature stands up and smacks man across the face. I hope it grows to an uncontrollable devastating level.
