I blink even when my eyes are closed?

It's been like this for as long as I can remember - when my eyes are closed normally for long periods of time, I blink them as if they were open. It's as if my eyes aren't fully shut or something, and the blinking makes them shut until that blink is over.

      Anyone else do this?
We all live in a kind of continuous dream. When we wake, it is because something,
some event, some pinprick even, disturbs the edges of what we have taken as reality.

Thank goodness... I thought my eyeballs were defective or something. Unless we both have defective eyeballs.

I believe most people do this. Not sure, though.

When you're sleeping or trying to sleep your eyes usually roll back into the sockets, and you can actually have the lids open a little ways, just revealing slits of eye-white (no pupil showing). In this case you probably still have to blink occasionally to lubricate the eyes.

Or it could be just that your eyes are gently closed, but possibly they're a bit dry and the natural instinct to blink to lubricate them kicks in.

It's not just when I'm trying to sleep; it's like when I'm on a plane and I've got my eyes closed to relax. But it does happen when I'm sleeping too.

I suppose it's gotta have something to do with a natural tendency to blink, but it's so annoying. xP

I do this too. I think it's because when you blink, it moisturises your eyes. And they probably still need to do it when your eyes are shut. It's nothing to worry about i'm sure

      Nice link, Solar!
I don't have a problem with blinking but my eyes seem to move from side to side even when they're closed. Even if I'm not envisioning images or daydreams.

And sometimes (it's especially worse while praying) I cannot keep my eyes shut. They just flutter and flutter until the lids fly open lol BUT, with praying, it could be that I usually only pray with my eyes closed during Congregation meetings while standing up. I have to place a hand on the chair in front of me to stabilize my equilibrium so it could be that reason alone that I have problems. At home, or with my thoughts anywhere, I tend to pray with my eyes open, just going about my day. But the problem also strikes, sometimes, when I just want to go to sleep. It's like my eyes are trying to tell me "I don't think so" as they fly open

And I'm old enough now that I'm not so self-conscious, so whenever someone tells me something I need to remember, I close my eyes. If I'm telling a story from my life or trying to remember a detail about something, my eyes go to one side or another and usually upward. It humors me.

Puffin: I have been told that every time I close my eyes they blink as though they were open. My girl friend showed me how they blink, however, I do not feel them blinking. I just happen to goggle that and found your post... No where does anybody gives good reason...just wanted to respond to your post
