      Dream Within a Dream LD.

I remember this dream from when I was really young. I was playing around and started climbing this really old house. I almost climbed all the way up but suddenly felt the need to lie down. I fell asleep and woke up in my house (still dreaming). I don't remember what made me go lucid but I thought it was really cool, also I don't remember what I did while I was lucid. Anyway, when I woke back into the first dream I wasn't lucid anymore. I woke up for good a while later.
Has this happened to anyone else? If yes, please share your experiences with me.

This happens to me quite often. Most of my most vivid lucids happen this way. I'll be in one dream, wake into another and am almost instantly lucid. Sometimes, I return to the first dream. Other times I wake up, a little confused because I didn't return to the first dream. A few times, I've had a third level dream - I fall asleep in a non-lucid, wake up in a lucid, fall asleep in that dream, then wake up in a even more vivid lucid.

LDing? or dream within in dream stuff?

I have been have LD's naturally, so for about 20 years now. However, I am way less experienced than that makes me sound. I only have a few a year naturally. I had a period of about 2 years where I was really working on my dreaming. I lapsed into doing nothing for about five years, and I just got back into really working on my LD's a few months ago.

As for the dream within dream stuff, the first I remember like this was maybe ten years ago. I don't really try to do this, it kinda just happens.

I don't think it's that strange, really. You do many things in your dreams that you do in waking life - go to work, go to school, drive your car - why not go to sleep and then dream also. People have false awakenings all the time.

If your dream recall and awareness is good, then its easy to become lucid when this happens because you'll remember falling asleep the moment before (in the previous dream) and then waking into another dream. That's how it works for me anyway.

Can I just ask what makes you believe it is a 'dream within a dream', i.e., that you're penetrating a deeper level of consciousness, and it's not, say, the end of one dream and the beginning of another, that then ends to revert back to a previous dream? Interested.

You're correct. This is whats happening. I don't think the dream within a dream is penetrating a deeper level of consciousness.

Hmm, then it's not accurate in any way to allude to Inception when people speak of 'dreams within dreams'. It's only confusing matters.

      Clarification:
I don't claim to have penetrated a "deeper level of consciousness" neither was I making an allusion to inception. I was just sharing an interesting dream that I've had (also one of the oldest dreams that I remember). I've named the topic this way just because I couldn't come up with a better title.
Also, it's nice to know that other people do this, so thanks for sharing that with me.

That is correct. I had worded that incorrectly.

Jus' saying 'dream within a dream' will most likely make someone think of Inception, which isn't good if you want people to take your thread seriously.

Once I had a dream, in which I fell asleep on my computer and I had a lucid dream. After I woke up from that lucid dream, I was back at my computer (still dreaming). Then I fell asleep again and had another one. Finally after that lucid dream, I woke up. It was a pretty cool experience.

What do you people use a cue to say: 'this is one dream, and that is another dream'? As in, what makes you potentially separate one nonsensical dream into multiple dreams?

Well, I have had a dream in which I fall asleep in the dream, and have a dream, then sometimes in that dream I fall asleep and have a dream.
