What kind of dreaming is this?

I don't know if anyone has a name for this or knows anything about it. basically it usually happens in the morning when i've already woken up then drifted back off and it's kinda like i'm half awake. it's vivid and i'm actually there like a normal dream. i'm definately not lucid because the me that's doing everything in the dream has no idea she's dreaming, but it's like there's a half concious me as well, like an awake part that is controlling the storyline of the dream as the asleep me is living it out. sorry if that makes no sense.

I think, from what you are describing is much like the transition when I WILD. If you concentrate on being lucid as this happens, you may have a lucid dream!

      Ooh, their breath is warm
      And they smell like sleep
And they say they take me home
      Like poppies heavy with seed
They take me deeper and deeper

No its a distinct feeling nothing like lucid dreaming. Its as if you are dreaming but your mind is in a daydreaming state.

Yeah i know what you mean... and it's definitely not lucid dreaming.
      I realize that i'm dreaming.

Just to clarify, i know it's definately not lucid dreaming so I don't need that clearing up. it seems like there's no conclusive answer but it's good to know a couple of people know what i'm on about!

I agree, try to spread a word around the internet and to our friends. Next time I meet my friends I'll say "hey have you ever _____ed?"
      "no"
"what you haven't, it means to ....."
That way people will think its a scientific word

I think it's mainly your mind still "awakening", and still in a dream-like state. I get that all the time. You start having extremely random thoughts, and they become really vivid thoughts, much like a daydream, but even more vivid. They are not as vivid as a normal dream, and you are partially concious during them. If this is what you're referring to, then it's definitely your mind still awakening. It generally happens not after you wake up per se, but if you wake up in the early morning or when you're still really tired.

No I believe its when you go back to bed (daydreaming that is) from waking up.

i believe it is a condition where you are still connected to your subconscious part of the brain and you are on the awakening stage of sleeping, but then you force to dig back into the subconscious mind, so in a way, it's like using your conscious mind to access your partly still accessible subconscious part of the brain, just like how sometimes during daydreaming where you just snap out of it and can't remember what you were thinking about just one second ago, if you know what i'm talking about, what do you think?

It usually happens to me when I get woken up by an alarm, so I see this experience which happens to me quite frequently as my brain just finishing up its REM stage that was interrupted by my alarm.

I like to call it "dream residue", because it usually has some connection to my most recently remembered dream from that night, but like you said I feel somewhat conscious. So its like the leftovers of the dream (or residue) mixing with your waking consciousness.

I've had this happen to me before, when somebody or something wakes me up and I'm just tired enough to think "screw this, I liked my dream better" without really focusing on the idea. Then I can kinda go back into the dream without seeming to totally fall back asleep. It's pretty fun. I can barely notice the transition of my waking self going into the dream world. Next time this happens, I'm definitely gonna try to WILD it out.

PalmDreamer, I like your idea of calling it dream residue. That's pretty much exactly what it feels like to me.
