A dream that changes because of external simulus. Has this ever happened to you?

This only happened to me only once even though I see it happen to fictional characters on TV all the time. I fell asleep on the sitting room couch and had a dream. This was when I was young and all into super power.

The dream became lucid almost as soon as it started. It was like a real life version of the Mario Cart games only with bicycles. Since I realized it was a lucid dream I tried to shoot energy beams out of my hands to take out my opponents in this race. It was really fun. So I shot the guy to my right and blasted him off the road. Then with my left hand I shot at the guy to my 11 O'Clock. But then I couldn't stop the energy beam from coming out of my hand. It felt like electricity was shocking my left hand and forearm.

That's when I woke up and realized that I was sleeping on my left arm and it was half numb and half pins and needles. Didn't think much of it at the time, but thinking about it now it made me wonder what were other peoples experiences like this.

I'd like to hear similar stories from anyone who's willing to share.

Hi there, as Zoth mentioned in your intro post, experiences like this are quite common, and interesting! I experience this many times a week, for as long as I can remember. Perhaps because I'm not too asleep? Not sure but I tend to to notice my real life environment a whole lot while I'm sleeping.

The usual examples I encounter are:
-Dreaming about flying with wind in my face, and waking up to the fan blowing right at me.
-Having an alarm clock with a band song go off, and then dreaming I'm at a concert. (this has caused me to be late for class many times lol)
-Hearing the slight tv sounds outside my room and dreaming of the exact same episode of the show.
-Having a dream about being tortured and stabbed in a specific area on my body, then waking up to a gadget (cellphone, remote control) or even my bundled up blanket pushing against that body part in real life.
-Dreaming of being injured and waking up in a very uncomfortable position that produces the same pain I felt in the dream

Have a nice day, and if you have questions, feel free to post! Seeya

Maybe it's a dream and if I scream, it will burst at the seams.

I used to dream inspired by radio podcasts in the car. Of course while someone else is driving, don't worry. The story would actually deviate quite a bit from the original topic of the podcast as the dreams went on.

As late as yesterday morning I dreamed that I ran around trying to get myself warm by touching traffic lights because I was freezing. I was freezing because my window was open and my blanket had been pushed off.

I remember a bad experience with that as a kid. I was sleeping on my arm and my dream made me carry a giantbomb up a hill.. and hell, it sure did hurt. DX

I had a dream with wolves howling and eating my livestock, when I woke up, it turned out there was a pack of coyotes howling outside my bedroom window.

Then there's the whole fall asleep with the TV on, and then I'd dream of infomercials.

I had extreme stomach pains one night and all I remember dreaming was this huge stampede of horses being ridden by Indians. I think it symbolized the horses as the pain cause and the earth being my stomach.

When I was younger I used to fall asleep listening to music, and very often people in my dreams used to just start singing out of nowhere, like I was part of a musical.

Yeah! This is perfect. When I roll off the bed, in the dream it feels like falling, or going down a roller coaster for a way longer duration then in actual waking life.

Great thread! At this moment I can't remember anything specific besides the usual pain the arm (while it's actually stuck under my body), but quite interesting replies so far ^^

This happened to me a couple of nights ago, There was a storm in my dream and i woke to find there was an actual thunderstorm outside. pretty neat, except for the part when really loud lightning struck and i was not ready for it, at all.

I've never had anything change, but I've heard my alarm clock without waking up at least twice. The first time, "TiK ToK" by Ke$ha (my favorite song at the time) was playing, so I just start jammin' out in the dream. The second time, I had the volume to low, so I could only hear the annoying *beep* *beep* *beep*. This literally (yes, literally) drove me insane in the dream.
