I've heard anecdotal evidence that combining DMAE with Galantamind works very well. Hard to say how much of this is due to the B5 which is added to the Galantamind and how much is the actual galantamine. Some of the people that say DMAE worked well for them were using brands that also add B5 and a few other things. What I use is just plain DMAE Bitartrate. I have combined it with vinpocetine, but I can't say I noticed much of a difference. I cannot say how reliable the supplier is, but in theory I am taking 2g (8 capsules of 250mg) a couple of minutes before bed. I also take 800mg of choline bitartrate and 800mg of inositol (it's mixed together) a little before that, as taking it all at once can make me feel nauseous. I can notice some kind of effect from a few minutes later to 12 hours, the strongest effect seeming to be at around hour 3, but the most useful seeming to be at around hour 6. I did not get better results by taking the supplements late in the sleep cycle, while doing WBTB.
Do you know something about how it works according to lucid dreaming, plazma peak level and elimination half-time?
DMAE supposedly interferes with acetylcholine at various different levels. Specifically, it crosses the blood-brain barrier and keeps the body from using choline, allowing it to build up in the blood and therefore cross into the brain (the crossing is regulated by relative density). Supposedly it helps regulate acetylcholine synthesis and breakdown, but I can't say how it does this. DMAE can also be absorbed into the cell membrane, I can't say what effect this ends up having. Supposedly DMAE also lowers dopamine. This is interesing because dopamine is actually directly linked to dreaming. I wonder if there is some kind of rebound effect going on here? Overall, there seems to be a lot of controversy over exactly what DMAE does, but it definitely does something.
I did not notice any sort of insomnia or nausea, which I noticed a lot with nicotine, with B vitamins and with galantamine. This leads me to think it does not just blindly raise acetylcholine but does something else that is more subtle. I did notice a kind of buzz in my body, sometimes the whole body and sometimes only my head.
The main thing I have noticed is that dreams are just way longer and better in every possible way. They are not the mythical hyper-real century long lucid dreams that some claim to have, but compared to my previous dreaming life, it's an absolutely huge difference.
Also, it is working better than galantamind did for me, and also better than nicotine patches, and while the dreams are not as bright as with galantamind plus a 7mg nicotine patch (those were super bright), they are definitely longer and more rational.
