Thread: What does your DG look like? Can you alter their appearance?

If you so much as dip your pinky toe into my DJ, you will know that I have a persistent guide named Manei. This was a drawing I did awhile back.



I can't change the way she looks even if I want to. Manei explained to me that the way a dream guide chooses to appear is part of what they are there to teach you in some weird way, and therefore you should not try to alter their appearance. So the second question is 'No'.

Compared to JadeGreen, I'm fairly new to the whole DG scene (just recently met mine about 3 months ago). I do have one though, and her name's Vi. I also have no art skills, so the best I could do was find a picture online that I thought looked like her.

Sometimes she looks a little different, but every time she shows up she has definitive brown hair. I've never really tried to change her appearance to be honest, but judging by her general attitude (fairly stubborn and not always very cooperative), she probably wouldn't be too accepting of it even if I could.

I have been looking into what I call the Dream Guide Complex. It's the idea that dream guides almost always appear as the opposite sex of the dreamer, (or the sex they find most attractive, in the case of my male friend S who was gay and had a male guide.) The rule holds true almost all of the time, but there are not a lot of cases of dreamers with persistent guides for me to look at.

I can't remember when I first met my dream guide. I got 'properly introduced' in my first LD, but trying to figure out why I was dreaming of the same girl all the time was the reason I got introduced to Dreamviews in the first place.

The TL;DR version, I noticed that I had a few dreams in a row where a brown-haired girl played a major role, usually helping me out in some way. After reading about it on the forums, I decided she had to be my dream guide and went on a search for her. It took a while, but after several attempts I finally met her in a dream. At first she was kind of mean, but she eventually warmed up to me (or I warmed up to her, idk). She's recurred in a couple more recent dreams, though it's been harder to summon her lately (ever since my month-long break from lucidity during college finals).

I read somewhere that DG's are commonly the gender the dreamer finds most attractive, though this isn't always the case. It's also possible to have more than one DG, where each one might teach you a different aspect about yourself.

Hmmm... I don't think that persistent characters usually change appearance too much. If you changed it with dream control it should technically stay, but most DGs have more power than the dreamer.

I have 5 persistent DCs. One DG.
Old man (DG), vixen, sister, father, and Jason.
I think that I am stronger (mentally, creatively, and physically) than my sister, bit the others run circles around me. the vixen quite literally has done that and left a marker in the sky to show how much faster and better than me she is.

My DG or what is presume is my DG, is the exact opposite of me. She is female, has white hair, has orange eyes, and is an anime figure ;~;

She would usually keep these keep these details about her, and change / morph from ages 10 to 30.

She barely comes into my regular dreams, or lucid dreams (until I call her). Mostly appears in daydreams... Daydream guide xD?

I've just been thinking on this recently, since I appear to have acquired a DG. I don't think you can change their appearance, but I think maybe you can influence their original appearance based on what you really want them to be? Like if you really really want a specific person, you can, but if you don't care much as long as you get a DG, then maybe they just choose their own appearance? I have no idea. I have a few recurring DCs, two guys and a girl.

The girl tends to get annoyed when I ask her things but tries to point me in the right direction. She doesn't seem to have any control over the dream though. She seems to know where everything is at any point in time, so maybe she's just some subconscious part of me that tries to send me to where I need to go.

The first guy is fun as hell to hang out with, and I used to hang out with him more often than I do now, which is too bad. But doing things with him is dependent on my control, like once he flew on ahead of me but he moved too far away and faded. He's good at punching nightmare creatures though. Lately most of my lucid involve me not having much control, so he can't exactly do anything at the moment.

The second guy seems to have absolute control over everything. If I don't have the dream control to do something, you can bet that he can do it, and usually better than I ever could. The things he can summon up are much more vivid than the stuff I make. Plus he always leads me out of awful situations. I think he's definitely my DG. And I wanted him to be my DG from the start, so I have no idea if I influenced that or if it was just a coincidence that he was the DG all along.

You can also change DG. Forgot to mention that. It doesn't have to stick as the same dc forever

What?! First, it's a dream character and now dream guide. I never met a dream guide in my dreams at all. I have a dream about dream characters but it seems like dream guide is the other way around. I'm jealous now.

A dream character is pretty much everyone in your dream. The majority of the people. But their is one (or a few if you decide to have more then one) That are call DG's or dream guides.

Dream guides help you out in your dreams, and can be summoned in the future to help you out of situations which you may not have enough power to control yet. Some people believe that dream guides are spirits sent here to help us and aid us in our adventures, others belief that their just a manefestation of our sub councious mind. (:

Thanks for the DG meaning. It sound so magical and epic. Now that you explained it, I did have some DG. I recall this one DG dude accompanied me through a haunted house and left it unscathed. Love that DG dude so much for his deed toward me. He's just a normal looking man with one body and a pair of eyes without extra limbs while holding a torchlight. Kinda hot if you asked me.

Not had a DG for many years, but I remember when I did he resembled Jiminy Cricket

Her name is Pauline. I met her after a few lucid dreams, and she's pretty nice ^_^ I recently drew her, too:

I never got a good look at her clothes, though. I think they change every dream- I'll have to check. I don't think I would be able to change her appearance, though... I haven't really tried.

Wow... I've never had a DG before. Sounds cool, though! I think I'm currently in the same situation as HelloBro123. I don't even have persistent dream characters at this point. Is a Dream Guide something that comes with reaching lucidity?
