Question In-dream "intoxication" or something in my brain is off?

I can see forum posts about people consuming substances in their dreams and therefore becoming intoxicated in the dream. I too have experienced this. But I have a question about a different phenomenon.

Every once in a while, I have experienced dreams in which I have consumed no substance, yet some connection in my brain seems to be "off" and I act as though I am drunk. Unlike dreams in which I consume a substance, in which anything might happen, the effects in these dreams are straightforward and linear, they follow the same pattern but may be "weak" or "strong". In a dream with weak intoxication I might stumble around, slur and struggle to form words, et cetera.

With strong "intoxication", my sight is affected through the "view", that is, something similar to the "camera" in a video game. It's hard to explain. Imagine you're looking forward, and you turn your head to the right. But you continue to see forward, and eventually find that in spite of definitely having moved your head to the right, your head is still in the same position. Now you wrench your entire body around, grabbing the environment, and definitely moving - but still no change in the "camera", and you find soon that indeed your body is in the same position.

This was REALLY SCARY the first time it happened, I actually thought that I had overdosed on Tylenol and was dying. I suspect it may have something to do with my use of Calea zacatechichi to induce vivid dreams (which by the way, definitely works!) because I've only really experienced it during Calea dreams (though my Calea dreams are usually normal and non-intoxicated).

      Can anyone identify with this?

Are you intoxicated fairly often in real life, i.e. do you drink and/or consume anything with any sort of regularity? Anything that you're doing in real life can filter through into a dream, and remember that dreams don't pick up from the middle of the story but actually somewhere in the middle - so rather than experiencing yourself getting drunk, most "drunk dreams" will just feature you being drunk from the beginning of the dream and perhaps being a bit confused as to why you're feeling that way. Take advantage of this and start doing reality checks every time you feel intoxicated in any way if this is happening to you regularly!

For me this kind of "visual lag" when turning around and such happens when the dream is becoming unstable and close to ending. Doing something to stabilise the dream like touching surfaces around you, rubbing your hands together, or shouting out loud for the dream to become stable can help with this. It's possible that's all it was. The Calea certainly could be to blame too, all the dreams I've had from any dream herbs have always been pretty weird in their mechanics compared to other dreams.

      Hope this helps!

I would say get used to it, as dreams are far from waking reality. If looked at with a clear (lucid) mind most of the stuff is distorted, your movements are off, and your bodily sensations are some what like drugs cause. With training you learn to have more control over movements and such, but still after so long, I feel varying degrees of intoxication in my dreams.
Peace Be With You. Oh, and sure, The Force too, why not.
