A dream where I "awoke" holding an object?

I've had lucid dreams since I was in my teens, but this one takes the proverbial cake.
Had a dream where I found an alabaster ornament cut into a teragomal prism (shape below) that was about 4 inches long on the ground and picked it up. After I did so, I started to wake up but held the object firmly in my hand. I could feel it's coldness that warmed to my hand, and the sharpness of it's edges and opened one eye to look at the object. My hand was in focus but the object was blurry. I thought to myself "I bet if I tried hard enough I could hold onto this all day" right before before my husband called out to me which startled me and made me reflexively let go and lose it.

Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone have insights on what in the world this could mean? I'm used to having the ability to determine I'm dreaming and fly around, as well as literally shrug and walk out of a dream that's upsetting or boring to start another more interesting thread, but never had this type of dream experience before.

Hi, this is 100% a false awakening, you effectively dreamt of waking up in your bed and so thats why you could still feel / see the object. This is very common. Some people when exiting a lucid dream purposely grab something and try to regain that feeling so as to reenter a dream. Hope that helps :-)

Once when I was at this cell apartment with 9 other people sleeping in the same room, I woke up completely hazy, took my phone and began dialing. Only that I never took any phone and I was poking the palm of my right arm... I'm so glad that no one was awake to see my stupidity

I can confirm having this experience too. Sometimes I wake up still holding onto things but the moment I start moving it goes away. I've actually gotten up some mornings and taken my sheets off to make sure I wasn't actually holding anything.

One example is a TV remote, in the dream I was holding onto it and when I awoke I could feel my bed but I could also feel the remote still in my hand until I moved and it went away.

Hi, let me explain what is going on. If at ANY time you find yourself lying in your bed and you are holding an object, you can be 100% sure that it is because you are actually still asleep and dreaming (without a scene). This is defo a false awakening and NOT your imagination. Next time is happens, simply levitate / roll out of bed and go on an adventure

I wish i would have known Ezzolucid, i had a dream of holding an ice cream cone and woke up still thinking i had it until i started looking for it in my sheets. I love how dreams could be so realistic but dislike how real the emotional side of it can be such as breaking up with an ex who you thought was the love of your life (at 19 at least). The emotion can be so strong as if your living that moment all over again.
