      Asleep and awake at the same time

      Every so often when trying to go to sleep I feel like I'm asleep but awake at the same, it feels like I'm laying here for hours or sometimes it can be a matter of minutes

      I think you're confusing wakefulness with consciousness. You can be conscious while sleeping just as you can be conscious while awake.
