Dying in a dream

I've heard that if someone dies in their dreams, they die in real life by a heart attack. I don't think thats possible because I've died twice in my dreams. Tell me your ideas and thoughts on the subject. I'm very curious. My dream dealt with being shot, blacking out and switching dreams then being killed by a ghost and exploding. But the second one when I died, my spirit was still there and I saw the last few seconds of what happened afterwards. Is it really possible to die in dreams? Or am I just messed up?
